You know, guys, originality aside, there are a few of us who really appreciate the characteristics of a canted valve engine....the 385 series Ford engines build great power without spending all that $$ for the FE....although with the cost of a new transmission it might be a wash.

For my tastes, the 385 engine is smoother at lower RPMs, less "fussy" about build technique (especially with regard to the valvetrain), and makes great torque (not that the FE's don't, of course) in a range that is more usable on the street.

If one MUST have a period correct engine, there is really only one option....and it's NOT one of the 385 series engines.
