Bob says he's only seen a couple of problems in hundreds of cars. But, SKF recommends packing grease both in,
and around, the bearing to essentially "seal it off" from the elements if the bearing is exposed to particularly rough conditions (which it isn't). Now you gotta admit, that's a nice looking grease packing job.
