Exclamation MA Resdients Voice Disapproval for Bill to Emissions Test Classic Vehicles

This came over my SEMA radar. MA is looking to introduce emission checks on classic vehicles. Please take 5 minutes to follow the link and voice your opposition via email. Here is the link:

SEMA Action Network (SAN) AA2017MA2

There is a link there to Contact Lawmakers. You just click that and it will email all the lawmakers at once. In the email just include a quick intro about yourself, where you live, and then say you are opposed to H.B. 1805 for the following reasons:

H.B. 1805 creates a new definition of “antique motor vehicle” for those over 25 years old that are substantially maintained in original or restored condition and intended to be operated upon any highway or public way. Under current Massachusetts law, an “antique motor car” is any motor vehicle over 25 years old which is maintained solely for use in exhibitions, club activities, parades and other functions of public interest.

H.B. 1805 requires that antique motor vehicles 25 years old and older undergo annual emissions inspections to ensure that they meet emissions standards in effect at the time of manufacture. Massachusetts already exempts all vehicles manufactured before 2003 from emissions tests.

H.B. 1805 allows the state to adopt additional standards to ensure that other parts or components of the antique motor vehicle are in good working order and that the antique motor vehicle is safe to operate. Current Massachusetts law already requires that all registered vehicles receive an annual safety inspection.
