If your side badges are like mine, they're held on with two posts and those push on one way nuts. I tried taking them off once but after tearing the hell out of my fingers I gave up. I wish I had done to them what I did to the nose and trunk emblems. For the nose and trunk, I threw away the oneway push on nuts. Instead I went out and bought a die to thread the posts. The die was only $5 or so. I think the size was 8-32 or 10-32 if I remember correctly.

If you're going to toss the badges and replace them anyway, you'll can probably just break off the posts. I'd use tile "nippers" or end cutting dikes/wire cutters (as opposed to side cutting dikes or wire cutters).
