Default New Badges - Red Stripe

Really lame questions:

I'm looking at replacing the 427 side badge, etc. and, frankly I don't know the best way to assure that the paint is not damaged. Input?

Also, can anyone tell me about the, for example, red stripe that some Cobra's have down the side of one fender? Why?

If the badge has sticky substance (tape), use dental floss. Pull the dental floss under the badge and tape to remove. It will take it off cleanly.

If your side badges are like mine, they're held on with two posts and those push on one way nuts. I tried taking them off once but after tearing the hell out of my fingers I gave up. I wish I had done to them what I did to the nose and trunk emblems. For the nose and trunk, I threw away the oneway push on nuts. Instead I went out and bought a die to thread the posts. The die was only $5 or so. I think the size was 8-32 or 10-32 if I remember correctly.

If you're going to toss the badges and replace them anyway, you'll can probably just break off the posts. I'd use tile "nippers" or end cutting dikes/wire cutters (as opposed to side cutting dikes or wire cutters).

We always install the emblems with push-on nuts. If you can get a knife or small screwdriver under the edge, pry it up so that it "oilcans" away from the body. Do both sides and you can (yeah, riiiight!) grasp the nut along the short sides with pliers to remove it. If you're desperate, the nut is fairly brittle so squeezing both long edges together might snap it in half. Maybe.

Do you have size 10 feet? One thing for sure is that ERA has more than a little mystery (or is that strangeness) going on when you are looking from the outside. But, regardless, expert input is readily available and very much appreciated.

Refered to as "rookie" stripes--the stripes could be different colors, or more than one, they used in racing when there were numerous cars of the same marque campaigned by different teams to help identify a teams driver/drivers. At least that is my understanding, Cobras weren't the only marques to have the fender stripe . Also heard it was used by some of the early racing associations here in the U.S. to identify new drivers until they were deemed qualified.
Some of the books on early racing have photos where you can see the fender stripe on Alphas, MG's,Triumphs, Porches as well as Cobras

Rookie stripe / Team stripe...

GR has it pretty much correct...

The 289 FIA's seem to display them more frequently than the 427's.

Actually, the "team" stripe answer is correct....the 'rookie' stripes were two stripes on the rear of the car.

I think that was because they never had a "team" of 427's on the track.
