pvc valve
hi all
have a 460 stroked to a 521 with a pvc valve, noticed my oil level going down ever since i put in a pvc , when i had the twist top breathers on the valve covers i never lost any oil.
what gives? is it sucking oil thru the pvc valve ?
is this normal?
any info would be great |

Sucking oil through the PCV does not sound normal at all. I have one on the same engine and no such symptom.
I use tall valve covers, so the PCV is well above the oil level even at high rpm. This valve cover has the internal baffle just below the PCV to prevent the mist from being sucked out by the PCV. Perhaps your valve cover doesn't have the baffle?

Might be something else that happened about the same time you put the PCV in, I wouldn't rule that out. IF the PCV is causing oil consumption at a detectable level then I would think the hose to the carb would be pretty wet, if not dripping, with oil.
My PCV hose is dry as a bone. I like them, I want one, perhaps like Tom says, you just need to figure out the variables to get it to work properly. |

I just took the PCV off my 460 and only breathers,no problems then or now.Sounds to me like you need to dig in a little.

Maybe you're not using the correct PCV (not PVC, a resin). I put one on my Windsor and it sucked a lot of oil. I'm not sure how to select the correct PCV. I removed mine and just went with the breather caps.
Also, keep in mind that a PCV leans out the gas/air mixture.

a well designed baffle goes a long way in keeping the oil from being sucked thru the PCV system.

I would take the valve out and if things go back to normal you just found the problem.
