1969cobrajet, it depends

429/460 blocks have the same bore. what you end up with depends on the crank/pistons.

429/460/514/533 etc. could all be the same block.

460 TAPPED TO .060 OVER AND 550 HP...RUNS STRONG.....BD

BBCobra 05-15-2004 08:19 PM

Hey guys, I'm picking up my Factory five Roadster June 1st. I've ordered it for a big block. I've got the short block built. 30 over flat tops, hoping for 10.5:1 comp, cobrajet rods. Now I saving to buy the Edlebrock RPM setup: 75cc heads, cam kit and intake. Looking for 475+HP. Options also ordered with FFR: full IFS & IRS
pindrive setup, Trigo knockoff wheels, leather. Can't wait!!!

Reaction re reduced port size from Ford Motor Sports...

The guys at Ford Motorsports Technical are great.......cept sometimes I feel like you get too much "personal opinion" thrown in on some questions.....

Spoke with one of their guys with some clutch questions........he went into a short disertation on optimizing the 514 Cobra Jet heads by reducing intake and exhaust ports.

This obviously is counterintuitive - he suggested specialized process was adding 100 HP and Lbs at lower to midrange.........(Like we need it).......I've been working on trying to get more air to mine to make sure it's breathing properly at higher RPM........

Curious if anyone else has heard reference to this new approach. Supposedly increases velocity and angle of air into combustion chamber ya da ya da......

FYI mostly.

I've got a 514..love it!

Just checking in here . . . . .

Have a nice 460 sitting in my garage waiting to be put in my Hunter #74.

I'll tell you, a 460 sitting in the middle of an empty garage makes for a very nice conversation piece. Actually had someone driving by my house, stop and ask me what it was!

Mike,

Wow, it sounds like you maxed out on every thing on this engine. How much are you expecting - you could be pushing 700 hp. with that combo.

you're right and wrong. the suggested horsepower is short of the actual engine dyno numbers. i am having a chassis dyno done next week so i'll let you know then, we're expecting a little over 825 and 790 torque. fingers crossed

Never thought I would say there was such a thing as too much HP. I stroked mine to 514 and put roller everything in it. I am shaking it down - tuning the 1050 dominator is a challenge - but learning! It is in a Midstates Cobra. Bob K. is great to work with!

Bob McKinney 01-16-2005 08:50 AM

I have a 1970 SCJ 429/500 hp in a Shell Valley kit and a 1969 stock 429. I am thinking of selling the SCJ and going with the milder 429.
