Default Does the noise annoy you?

I was just wondering if the noise of your BB annoy any of you. I know some of you love it but do you feel that your driving your cobra less due to the BB noise? I want to be able to drive my car often as possible.

Cool I can only imagine........

How awesome it will be to open the snake den (garage bay) and fire up 600+ monster ponies, it will shake the house! Startle the neighbors! JOY!!

Not too far off either !

Noise? Are you serious? My friend, it is not noise, it is a melody.

Ok let me be more specific. I have been in or driven a sb (aka Little block302 and 3.8 turbo) and find it to be fun to drive and ride around in. Almost like a production car with a louder exhaust. The BB I have not driven or ridden(sp) in. They sound mean, rude, brutal, etc. at idle. Its great but does the loud Melody as Ikestaa put it sometimes get to you during long rides. I also understand that in fifth gear it will simmer down a little. But driving around town it may be too much.(gears 1-4) I need an honest answer here. I don't want to get a BB if I am not going to drive it due to sound. Notice I did not call it a noise!
I want to drive this car a lot due to the fact I live in the Midwest. I also understand that it is part of my reason for having the car. I guess I'll just have to ask a few people to take me for a long ride and see how i feel. I think I just answered my own question!

Its good to talk thing out. If you have more input please go ahead and....input.

GS,

If you can hook up with someone local and beg a ride for an hour or so, you'll probably get the best read on what your own ears can handle. I've found, about an hour into a trip in the car, that the noise actually smarts a bit. One solution is to use some foam earplugs, which I expect I'll start doing on longer drives. The shock waves from the side exhausts actually concuss everything around them--that's why all those car alarms go off! (Big fun!)

Personally I love the sound. A year or so ago I did see a strange site arriving at the hotel in Danville after a day at VIR. A guy drove up in a cobra and he was wearing large headphones like you would use at a shooting range. I just couldn't understand that. If the sound bothered him so much why not buy a Viper or at least lose the sidepipes and go for the roadster exhaust.

If I am going to be driving for more than a half hour or so I use foam ear plugs.

To answer your question....no, the sound doesn't annoy me, but it does give me a headache after a while!

If someone asked me for a ride to see how a BB felt like and sounded like and during the mid-trip started complaining that it was to noisy "rude, mean, brutal" I would be down shifting fast, while I brake (where the sound becomes unbearable) and smile while letting you out.

It is a long walk back! BB in no time probably took you 10-20 miles from the departure point.
Good luck, hitchiking. Show some leg!! Truckers like those...

Big Blocks don't make noise, they sound like Ravel's Bolero (from the Movie 10), and small blocks sound like Dudley Moore!

Default bb sound.....

I dissagree Turk, I find the small block to be closer to the voice of Truman Capotie. With a dash of Mike Tyson!

If your cars exhaust does not set of car alarms, and does not wake the dead...it is TOO QUIET!! Loose the mufflers.

Exclamation Don't listen to these guys!!!

GS,

These BB guys will only lead you astray (especially Turk!). You see, many of them have never been properly potty trained nor have they ever learned how to play well with others. They are quite prone to running with scissors and speaking loudly in libraries. No, scratch that, these socially offensive boors would never set foot in a library other than to sneak peaks at suggestive photographs in National Geographic. And I won't even go into the itty-bitty peni$ thing.

Now, is that the image you want to project in public? Because that's exactly how you will be perceived by the general public, under-endowed, obnoxious and definitely uncivilized (and probably lacking in good personal hygiene as well).

Go with the sb, keep your hearing, donate less to big oil corporations, and for heaven's sake don't allow the size of your manhood to be brought under question....

Mike

I love the loud obnoxious rumbling of my 428. Coming through the middle of the small city I live in on a two lane street between high buildings at about 4000. Music to this sh*t-stirrers ears..

Not a BB but, my 289 HiPo is running 4.10 gears and a 4-Speed with no overdrive. It sounds like a Nascar winding out....4000rpm on the highway. I can't wait to get under an overpass!

GS, some of these BB guys obviously do not drive their cars for LONG distances, try driving 750miles to the Spring Fling in a BB without earplugs or ear protection . Your brain will be soo battered by wind and MELODY you won't stop vibrating for the entire weekend. I love my BB, but I love my hearing and sanity too! It will get to you no long trips! That is the TRUTH! I do love the MELODY around town!!

Just want to clear things up. Talked to the manufacture I am planning on going with and settled on the crate 351. FOR NOW!! But things may change later...here is the question of the day...

HOW CAN I GET THE 351w to be as loud as possible? Cobra Exhaust loudness only please! (GASHOLES!) I need all the ideas you guys have.

Default Loud 351

GS,
My 351 crate is louder than most BB's, could be the 15 year old mufflers????Still not loud enough for the track till I remove the mufflers and put on my 3 1/2 inch open pipes.
