As mentioned, there have been some QC issues with some crate motors. But if you are asking whether the 460 is a good motor, the answer is yes. It is considered one of Ford's better motors by many Ford enthusiasts. It has proven to be a reliable engine.

Some have experienced oil pressure problems during long left hand sweepers while open tracking. This has led to broken motors, for the lack of a more technical term. Some have installed Accusumps in order to combat this very specific problem.

To reiterate, this is only an issue when "racing", and not on the street.

Have Fun,
Randy R...

There seems to be some knowledgeable folks out there so I have a question. Are the 460 engines from trucks any diffrent than the ones that were put into cars in the seventys? I have a 77 Ford truck with a 460 in it, was wondering if the motor was considered to be one worth building for a performance engine.

There is no real difference in the truck or car engines. Ford stopped putting them in cars, but contiued putting them in trucks for about 10 years longer. The later versions that came on the trucks have smaller heads than some of the early to mid 70's cars. Most folks use aftermarket aluminum anyway. There is a slight difference in deck height on early vs. later blocks.

If you replace the rod bolts with something like ARP, the stock bottom end will support a lot of HP.
