I bet the Chevy engine you speak of still weighs more than an SBF with aluminum heads. A 5.0 engine weighs about 460 lbs with iron heads, and about 430 with aluminum heads.
So, a 302 stroked to a 347 with aluminum heads has the potential to make a compelling power-to-weight engine combo.
