What is the value of a 429CJ

I'm looking at a 429 Cobra Jet Engine D00E-B, in storage complete engine. I'm trying to figure out its value, the owner wants $4000. original I don't think it has been worked on.

I just retired from the army and the Sergeant Major, "the Wife",
is letting me build a car. Im Looking at purchasing a Cobra kit car and putting in a big block Ford engine.

So I'm looking at using one of these engines a 429CJ, 429SCJ, 428CJ, 427 side oiler (first pick if a good price), 427 center oiler.

Anyone with an engine at a reasonable price please contact me!

Thanks

I would say it's not worth much since you can get a new 460 crate motor starting at $5795 from Ford.
500HP and 500TQ right out of the box for not much more than that old motor that will probably need a full rebuild.

And do realize that not all replica's will have room for the 429/460 engine family.

It is more valuable if it is a 4 bolt main block or the thick main 2 bolt block. Here is a link that describes the 429 SCJ.
http://fordifiedracing.homestead.com/460tech.html
One advantage of a vintage block is that in some states the DMV allows you to title your car to the year of your block. My SPF is title as 1970. No smog or bumper rules.

How about a BOSS 429 short block?
The Boss motor is an S version, Nascar crank and rods. New non-boss pistons, Isky cam w/ a W77n part no. Non-boss oil pan, .060 on the block and all re-built. 4 head studs are broken in the block, but any competent shop should be able to remedy that. Gear-drive is installed. The balancer is cogged for a dry sump system from the factory. The year is a 1969. Vin no. is 9F159798.

I am offering this motor here for a friend. He would like to get $6200. He also has 429CJ heads that would work with the non-boss pistons and a 1971 Shelby intake flanged for a dominator carb. These last items would be an extra $1300 if someone desired them.

David, good point about the vintage block, but my interest does not relate to my Cobra, which has a healthy 427SO.

I just acquired a 69 Mach 1 project car, currently with a 351C. I'm just looking at all options, and I suppose a crate 460 could be shoe-horned in that too. Since the car is an actual 69, I don't have to worry about safety or emissions issues given it's actual age.

But, I'd love to find a decent 428CJ or 429SCJ to re-do....just not at those kind of prices.

		Clay,
What's wrong with the Cleveland engine? I'd be interested if you want to sell it. Can't imagine why you would want to shoehorn in a BB vs that 351C.
