Most BBF's I ship are 670-700lbs including the crate, which is made of a pallet, six feet of 2x10, two 4x8's of plywood, and about sixteen feet of 2x2. The crate/pallet is probably at least fifty pounds, so that leaves you at 620-650 for a fully dressed big block Ford. This range includes combos with cast cranks, iron heads, alum intake, as well as combos with forged crank, alum heads. No clue on the weight of a BBC.

For the record, there are forged BBF cranks available. Cast BBF cranks (and stock 2-bolt blocks) have been proven to handle 700+HP without any issues. The new forged offerings are being run in 1500HP applications without breakage.

If you're talking a BBF crate engine from Ford, you should probably know that Ford has discontinued it's current big block crate offerings. Rumor has it, they're designing a new block to be used as part of a new big block crate engine. No offical release date for the new crate from Ford. Could be 2008, could be 2010, could be never. If/when the new engine comes from them, you can be sure it's going to be much more expensive than before.
