I do believe it is the tie rod end. The guys at the tranny shop spotted this (and a lot of other "things" (defects) I have now fixed)
It's in the picture above, the piece/shaft with the rubber boot at each end, that runs horizontal. If no-one can help with a parts number then I'll have to pull it when she's on the rack and we'll try to match it up in a parts book.
Thanks for the well-wishes. At least I won't miss out on this summer's fun. A coupla' weeks and at least she'll be back on the road
although there's still a lot to do to get her where I wanted her in the first place. If I did not have the resources I would now be looking at a worthless hulk in my garage all summer
