I don't know for sure how far the factory scissors jack included with Jeep Cherokees collapses, but it's pretty short. Has a good deal of lift as well, since they were built to lift a 4x4. It's what I've always used with our Unique (at least until my wife got me an aluminum floor jack last month!).

I particularly like the long handle that sort of locks into the jack; you can use it to slide the jack around under the car for correct positioning.

They're also readily available at almost any wrecking yard for hardly any money at all.
