Bill Parham at Southern Automotive built the 1968 427 side oiler, with dual quads. If memory serves me, it is stroked to 484 cubic inches. I went with a Tremec TKO/600 with a .82 OD. It has the same first four gear ratios as a top loader, with the added bonus of the OD.
