Check out the annual Consumers Reports book. If I recall correctly, they rated Hoover quite high. No doubt it varies from model to model but I know that I have an Electrolux that I thought was good. Then my girlfriend moved in and brought her Hoover with her. I was shocked. It put my Electrolux to shame. The Hoover was probably $125 and the Electrolux probably cost me $800.
