 I asked the same question of the ARP rep for my header bolts.  I was told that there is a chance of split lock washers cracking and they wanted nothing to do with that possible situation.  The ARP guy said to torque the bolt - header bolts in my case - to the proper torque spec of 35 lbs. for my 418W with aluminum heads and the natural stretch of the aluminum will lock the bolt in place.  Don't forget anti-seize compound.  Mine are still in place 2 years later and have not loosened. |
