Default ARP stainless steel bolts

Just wondering if anyone knows why the polished ARP stainless steel bolts all come with flat washers instead of lock washers.
Thanks.

Generally speaking lock washers are ok for a swing set or your Cheby but I would not want to use them on my AFR cylinder heads. You should either use locking nuts (various types are available) or thread locker.

A word to the wise: They are not strong enough fto be used or head bolts, not that this was the intention. I dont believe ARP sells a "Split Lock Washer".
Those are not for High Performance Automotive use. Use a correct flat washer and a thread locking liquid such as Locktite.

These are for water pump, carbs(studs for carbs), starter, intake manifold, headers, and rear diff. cover. Heads are already installed with ARP studs (non stainless).
Thanks guys, I was just wondering why no lock washers.

I asked the same question of the ARP rep for my header bolts. I was told that there is a chance of split lock washers cracking and they wanted nothing to do with that possible situation. The ARP guy said to torque the bolt - header bolts in my case - to the proper torque spec of 35 lbs. for my 418W with aluminum heads and the natural stretch of the aluminum will lock the bolt in place. Don't forget anti-seize compound. Mine are still in place 2 years later and have not loosened.
