TRAFFIC!!! sorry....
If anyone heard about a traffic jam in Forsyth Wednesday morning, sorry.
I decided to take my daughter to school to make a big splash with the Middle-schoolers.... and just 100 yds from a Shell and 1 mile from the school... sputter...sputter....dead.
I've really gotta fix that fuel gauge. I had about 9,000 people compliment the car and another 9,000 scowl while traffic backed up from Sharon Rd to 400.... One of Forsyth's finest helped me push the car up a slight hill and into a tree-lined driveway where I was out of harm's way. The wife took my daughter to school, brought the gas can, then I had to refill the float bowls so off I sent her again... to the store for coffee, donuts, and something to use to put gas into the float bowls. She returned with a turkey baster.... perfect, think there's a message there?
It all ended well with a run down 400 after the morning traffic cleared.

It's happened to me before about a mile from my house. I learned to always refuel every 100 miles and never much more. 110 miles was the most I ever got out of the tank (I think that works out to about 7MPG) , and that was when it ran out.
I ended up grabbing a ride with a young guy, like 18 or 19. I get in his car and he has a bird in a cage, a kitten, and some hamster. I now start to wonder what I got myself into . He must have sensed my quandery and quickly explained he was a magician on the way to a birthday party. Whew!!
BTW, we are now on the drop down bar for local clubs !!

So what 's the deal, you guys buy the cars and can't afford the gas? And what's with the "Shell" thing? You need to be running Amoco (BP) white gas. We need to talk about all of this at the Five Seasons this weekend, eh?

Alex, Saturday is looking a bit suspect. Sunday looks like a much better bet for good weather. Also, where was that place we met the first time that had the outdoor eating area that overlooked the parking lot?

I hope to be putting the body on my car this weekend. If not I think Dreamland is the ticket and Sunday is the day.

Randy, can I surmise that you live near Dreamland BBQ? Do you think a few greasy BBQ hand prints will buff out of your new paint?
Mike, you're right, Dreamland it was.

Dreamland is right----fine with me, if that suits the others.
They are calling for thunderstorms on Saturday, though, but we can certainly play it by ear. I'm up for Sunday as well.
Chill---not a good feeling, and so close to the pumps.
Alex---I agree-past 3/4 tank, I think I can visually watch the guage drop.
TC---bring the DVSF tiks Sat/Sun??
See ya

Charlie, yes I will bring them, even though I just sealed and stamped the envelope, but that way you can fill out the stub and hand it back to me right there.
National WX Service only calls for a 30% chance on Saturday, but Sunday is probably better for me anyways.

Chill,
To avoid that kind of embarrassment (running out of fuel), I now carry ten gallons of high octane fuel in the trunk of the Cobra in freezer bags... To be sure it's safe I use the Ziploc bags... after all, they are the best...

The closest I ever came was when I sputtered to a stop in front of the fuel pump (no kidding). Unique says their tank is 17 gallons, but I actually pumped 18 gallons into it that day. Now I never let it get past 1/4 tank. Ever.
I have a 40-minute one-way commute to work. Driving tha car to work and back costs about $12 each time.

17... 18... 20... I've learned to assume that it's a 12-gallon tank.

I think I've been told it's 20 gal. capacity as well. My fuel gauge reads empty at -10 gallons. That would imply that I still have half a tank at empty. I've never let it run out, so I don't know where the bottom really is.

Never mind the fact that "Your mileage may vary" was invented the same day they measured the consumption on these things ! If we all had quiet mufflers, we'd here the huge sucking sound of gas being siphoned from the tank into the fuel pump and float bowls.

Ok, gotta catch up.....
Dreamland, Sunday. sounds good count me in. ...and I'll fill up on the way.
I actually called Unique the other day... found I had some time on my hands waiting for the 'support vehicle' to bring coffee and a turkey baster.... they say 20 gallons.
I though about calling Bill to ask what mileage I could expect just to see what he would say.... once he stopped laughing....
Randy, you should get about 23mpg in your 6 cylinder....so I wouldn't worry about running out of gas... but then no reason for gas yet....
I figured I would just keep the baster in the trunk, fuel is easy to find... a way to refill the float bowls is different.
I miss anything?

a little splash of fuel into the carb(s) will get you from having to use the turkey baster.. not too much or you can flood it. But once it fires those carbs will fill up.
