9.93 quarter mile at 140!!!!!

David Williams in St. Louis just called me from Gateway International as he was being escorted out by track officials to report that he had just broken the 10 second barrier in his cobra. (He had been warned before about his lack of an approved NHRA roll bar) This is the same car he was drag racing in Tulsa at the Shelby event before he drove it 400 miles back to St. Louis! This thing is a street car and David is one crazy dude! Some of you met David at Run and Gun. He and his wife own Fast Lane Classic cars. He bought lunch for everyone at the event and hosted it at his shop.

Congratulations to David.

Dean that's screaming! Do you know what his setup is?

Steve

Holy smoke! 9.90 / 140 without a roll cage is INSANE! What was his set up.
This may have been "street legal" going by the letter of the law, but it surely couldn't be close to anything you would consider a daily driver. Whatever, that is flying!!!!
Dean, I really missed seeing you, Clois and all of the guys at RnG this year.
I had never been to an NHRA Full Throttle meet, and they were stopping in Richmond (for the last time - we're not on the tour schedule for next year) the weekend of 10/10, so I opted to go to the drags. To anyone who has never experienced a NHRA top fuel match - words cannot describe. OMFG.
Best to all.

That is Awesome! Pretty crazy, but awesome.
Video of the run and getting ejected would be a hoot to see! LOL

I am posting this for Dean since he is away from his computer:

David's car has a 363 stroker on nitrous. He is running 10 inch drag radials on a ford 9 inch with 4:30 gears. It isn't even an automatic! He is running a six speed. He really does drive this car 20 miles to work most days.

Double Venom 10-21-2009 09:07 AM

NHRA officials must have gone through the roof!
(My fastest time in the original DV was 11.01-all motor 6-spd and NHRA went nuts at that! Warned me big time about breaking into the "10.00's"!

Dammm, a 9 second cobra!

No disrespect to Mr. Williams or Dean, but the guy broke the rules and he probably knew it. This is why our medical insurance premiums are going up.

D-CEL 10-21-2009 10:14 AM

To David,

Congratulations, that is impressive. What was your 60ft? Did you get the time slip, or did they just escort you out?

And to all those wiener's that say "more than 500hp in a Cobra IS A WASTE!"
That time is a smiling one finger salute!! LOL

Now lets see who can run an 8..

Jason

wrong.......................insurance angancies don't cover a car during a timed event. so that isn't why your premium is so high. maybe it's your drivng record.:JEKYLHYDE

Wrong! I'm not talking about medical insurance for your car.

Also, the track's insurance rates translate into higher track fees for other participants.

Clois Harlan 10-21-2009 11:25 AM

Besides all the down sides of Dave breaking the 10.0 barrier in his lil ole stroked 302 Cobra, I want to say congrats to Dave for achieving his personal best. And a big thank you for all your support concerning Run N Gun. I don't have a comment on the insurance issue because I don't know anything along those lines as fact!

Oh come on, we still live in America where dreams are possible.

You're right. What could I have been thinking? Taking risks is what made America great. We shouldn't have to worry about those pesky rules, regulations and laws. What do they know anyway.

Not great pics of Dave's car, but here they are - First one is on the track Wednesday at RNG

This one was during the barrel race runs in the parking lot at Gateway. Dave thought a good burnout would be great entertainment, he was right :D

Dave lives in a little town about 30 miles or more from Fastlane and I know he drives this car any day that he can. It's an Excalibur Replica. Used to be White/Red stripes, but I think he liked Sammy's paint job so much he duplicated it :D Congrats Dave! A pic from last night - http://www.racingperspectives.com/cg...-10-20_099.jpg

Missed seeing you in June Jay, Hope you make it next year. Don't know if you knew we built a new engine this spring. 454 small block, alll roller Dart iron eagle tall deck and 18 degree heads. 11:1 CR Next project is to put a solid axle in. I think I've found the limit on IRS. I keep blowing half shafts, they've all blown on the line, except the last one. It blew on the big end, somewhere over 130 mph. I was in the right lane then all of a sudden it was like I was on ice. Car headed to the right wall, I fought to get it back and then it headed for the left wall. Crossed center line in front of the other car. Then headed back right. I crossed the line sideways and still ran a 10.66
You don't want to know about the pucker factor. All I can say is thank God I didn't hit anything. That cornfield in London was a piece of cake compared to this.....

dlampe 10-21-2009 04:47 PM

Come on Rodknock, We're buddies but if you are sticking to the letter of the laws and rules, I'm going to have to pass you and that beautiful car of yours as you put, put, put, down the highway at 55 mph!

I spoke to David again this morning and he was called to the tower (thats when he called me and thought he was getting tossed out) but as it turns out they asked him to come to the control room to give him a trophy for last years Run and Gun. They actually congratulated him on his time and he ran again, posting 9.75! This guy is a great driver who set a personal best during the last night of the season. Save the preaching about all these law breakers for the Model "A" forum and tip your hat to a guy who is getting it done!
