It appears to be very easy to disconnect the speedometer/odometer....just reach under the dash and pull off a wire from the instrument. With this in mind, how much faith can one have in some of the low mileage quotes often seen in the classifieds?
The cable driven ones are a little harder to reach under there and take off. That being said, we have had some dealers around here arrested for doing just that or running the mileage back down to a lower figure. So unless you know the car and the owner, it is hard to be sure that the mileage is accurate. Also if they have replace the speedometer is another thing to look for.
