Unique has their own forum & a loyal customer base. It seems that they have had a lot less of a presence here as of late but they do make a very quality car. I considered them pretty hard before deciding to go with ERA.

Unique makes a very nice car and the Weaver family - the owners of the company - are a wonderful group of people to deal with.

I have two friends that have Unique 427's, outstanding cars that are simply knockout gorgeous. I too looked long and hard at Unique but went with FFR. Do a Google search and their Owner forum should pop up.

On this forum, look under Community, then Social Groups and you'll find a group of about two dozen people in the Unique Motors group.

Both UM and CCX are very high end cars with similarities and differences.
Differences:
UM:
They have their own website...
2" x 4" steel box type frame
More of a sloping rear section compared to the S/C type car
Front end suspension is now a Weaver family designed unit
Weavers are still owners of the company
UM:
CCX:
4" round tubular frame
Body replicated from CSX3045
Generally used Jaguar front suspension either Series I or series II
Company no longer exists however there is a strong support club of owners
See: Interview with Peter Bayer
CCX:
Similarities:
Jaguar rear center section
Ability to use either FE or SB configuration
Both can be found in street or S/C styles
Both cars have tenacious group owners followings.....
BOTH ARE HIGH END CARS!

I have an '86 Unique 427 with a 351 Cleveland that doesn't look it's years, great fiberglass body and a frame that is still straight and true. Many folks do consider this manufacturer to be up towards the top in making a car that is true to the original and uses high quality components. I see some listed on CC from time to time and another post has already given the link to their website of which I am a memeber. Chris

Unique makes a very nice car, and as stated above the Weavers are exceptionally good people to work with. You could not go wrong with dealing with them.

We have four guys who own Unique's. Good looking Cobras. Great Cars.
And like it has been stated, high end Cobras.

This weekend the Weavers will be at the Turkey Rod Run from November 26-29, 2009 as they are every year with their cars. I try and stop by to say Hi.

My first cobra was a used Unique FIA. Heavy duty fibreglass body - very well made. The Weaver's have a shop that builds street rods - and do a lot of fibreglass work and do it well. They use the same chassis for their 427 and 289 bodied cars. 2" * 4" rect tube chassis. Gas tanks "in the trunk" for easy access (kind of takes away trunk space if you plan on any trips with the car). I bought mine used, drove it 4000 miles or so over a two year period, and sold it for the same price I paid. A very good experience. I now have 5000 miles on my new ERA.

somedayaurora,
If I'm not mistaken Unique Motorcars has been building Cobra replicas since 1977, which means you should easily be able to find some that are old enough to import into Canada. Just make sure the seller has the right documentation.
I had seriously considered buying a UM Cobra, but ended up with an SPF instead. But everything I ever read or heard about UM was positive, so I'm sure I would've been happy going that way too. Another nice thing about UM is that they offer both 427 and 289FIA configurations.

A few years back, I was at the Carlisle (sp?) Penn. car show. I seem to be remembering that there is a company that assembles Unique kits into a turn key car. I don't trust my memory on this, but I'm thinking there is something to this.
