OK, I've sat on the side lines long enough. This thread first came out as inquisitive, then turned informative, then has gone crapative. I bought SPF 968 used a few years ago because I WANTED a product with some sort of quality control when manufactured. And also with some mileage so most bugs were shaken out. If I was to have my wife riding next to me, it had to be one of the safer manufacturers, at least in my mind.
After talking months with the Dallas group (with damn near every brand represented), this was the brand I wanted, and lucky enough to afford. I don't consider myself lazy, I wanted a manufacturer that had history, warranty, community, and reliability. I know I made the right decision. Lordy, I own, maintain, upgrade, and race my '65 Mustang. I don't consider myself lazy....Geeze. Let's right this ship (thread), and discuss pro-active means of solving and assisting. You guys need to quit throwing folks under the bus.................. |
There are some fanatic ERA owners and some fanatic SPF owners, who cares what anyone on this forum says, there is no, zero, nada accountability. It is for entertainment purposes only. Everyone getting bent out of shape go take a cobra ride, I learned a long time ago when you sell you car you sell it to ONE person, not a group, not an opinion. For what is worth SPF in REALITY is PERCEIVED to be the best fiberglass replica on the market. In reality SPF's has Shelby licensing stamp, I dont give a fuk that everyone on this forumn thinks it is worthless in reality it is adds value to the car.
ERA owners on the other hand have to kick or scream or everyone forgets about them because they do not have the capacity to fab more than 20? cars a year. Great for them they know their limitations, but they are no Superformance. Oh that did feel good, and yes I am always right LOL!!!! I am not lazy but I sure dont like doing work I have paid other to do. |

I would venture to say that a car designed around OEM parts would be less likely to have fasteners that are improperly torqued, or that fail due to poor design. Many Cobras are designed around Production suspension components, and I would guess that they are designed with the same mounting and tightening specs. But the purpose of "fiberglass" is to aide areodynamics, and look pretty. In an accident, the fiberglass body is written off. A steel tube chassis however, will unfortunaltly hold up too well in most cases, not absorbing the impact of the crash to protect the occupants. There should be no debate of how these cars perform in a crash (they will not do great). The issue here is that they shouldn't fall apart and crash you into a tree.

Perceivd by me and my money is the short of it. The long of it after owning one for two years and analysing the suspension design, one designed for a superformance and not taken from another and made to work on a cobra is one reason. Second after attending numerous car shows have not see one that comes close to fit and finish, third, after driving and experiencing it rock solid feel, no rattles, no sagging doors, no panel rubs, optimuim driver ergonomics, fourth, after intial bugs worked out bullit proof reliability, i have not laid a wrench on it in a year except for checking bolts and nuts which I found so tight I was lucky I did not bust a knuckle. True the mirror on the fender is a useless POS. Oh an dealer network is second to none and numerous throughout the country.

Never owned an aluminium or driven one so it may be better than those too but cant say. It is the best fiberglass Cobra replica. I dont care how much it replicates the original as long as the body lines are 90% true. It is a FAKE, just like every other replica. They are all FAKE, even the Kirkhams. Who cares in the end it is the drivability fit and finish in that order. If it doesnt drive well might as well by a picture and hang it on the wall.

She is a beauty and I have compared her to other makes at car shows, hands down "Rogue" kills them in every aspect. I have her three trophies to prove it!
