CSX700?

I don't have a clue as to what it takes to import any cobra replica into any country in Europe. I do know enough to seriously doubt that every country in Europe has the same registration requirements. I cannot imagine any country would register a replica as an original 65 Cobra.

As I noted...I know that different mfgs sell cars in the different countries, and I know a bunch of replicas have been snatched up by Europeans over the past several years. They appear to be able to get them registered regardless of the mfg.

But I know enough not to throw something out as gospel unless I know.

You obviously don't.

You should've listened...

Relax...maybe open up some windows and get some fresh air in !

i was merely adding my experience !

Yes, and the air's just fine, until it becomes fouled. The point is that folks with, shall we say, unique registration scenarios shouldn't be passing them off as representative of a country's registration process. Learn to read/heed.

I'm feeling bad because I obviously started something very delicate here...

It's not only that nearly every country in Europe has his own regulation. In Switzerland for ex. we have 26 what you call states (and remember: we have a total population of about 7 million people...). In every state there is a DMV-top banana. One likes the Ferraris, the other one likes the Corvettes, or MG's - you name it. So you have to know where you can go. I don't want to go into details. It's VERY delicate here. And being on the way to buy/import a Cobra I don't want to put myself in a glashouse...
If you know the fact, that replicas can absolutely not be put on the streets as oldtimers it does not need much fantasy what "everybody" does here concerning papers, VIN-tags and so on....also with perfect, nearly period perfect built Kirkhams!!
If you register it as a new car you don't have to put airbags in it. But you or better the car has to correspond with all the latest regulation concerning pollution, noise and so on. In other words: impossible!
Thats the reason we are so very picky with "your" papers. Once a wrong number or even a word or two is "wrong", you are in deep ****! I know of a ERA Cobra, sitting about 30 minutes from where I live. Wrong paperwork, no chance of getting licenced in Switzerland!

Thank you, fonti...you just confirmed my point. I do not want folks coming back to this thread and basing their decision on whether to buy/import a Cobra into any country in Europe based on needing to add airbags or bumpers per CSX700?'s post, and others that follow in that vein.

It would be assinine to think that several countries (even in the Union of European Socialist Republics) would all have identical rules. Friends in England, for example, have to pass safety regulation reviews on a regular basis.

It sounds like Switzerland is not unlike the United States, and that you appear to be working under scenarios not much different than California in the 80s/90s.

Comparing legal requirements to "how folks get things done" is apples and oranges, and I'm glad you came back to weigh in just enough to explain the situation.

I spent two years fighting with the Feds because one of my clients imported some G-Wagens (grey market) for use on his extensive farming operations...there's many ways to skin a cat, so good luck.

...and don't feel bad about starting something. There's a history you are not aware of.
