Fantastic story. If you would go to any car nut and tell them that the 40+ car (any car) beat the new ABS cars in the 0-60-0 they would call you a liar.

That Cobra sounds pissed off! Wish the Track Footage had better mic placement & a speedometer view. Great story!

I love it. I always wondered how a Cobra with a good track driver would stack up to the modern (or modernized) muscle machines in some mixed events. Glad to see it kickin butt!

This is a great story. You sure did look and sound good. Reminds me of the old bull and young bull on a hill overlooking the herd. Good job.

This is just another example that you just can't beat the right tool in the hands of skilled craftsmen. It applies to wood working and fast cars!

The 0-60-0 was the most impressive.

The show is on Speed on Saturday AM at 9:00AM MST. I don't know if Speed time shifts or if a simple time zone adjust will get it for the rest.

Gentlemen,
You make us very proud.
We all have heard it "They were fast back in the day, but they just can't compete with modern cars"...
Well to that I say: You sissy, lace panty wearing, manicured, ABS reliant, techno-dependant, girly men can kiss my hairy man a$$!

Properly set up and driven (Only those with large Testosterone factories and great skill need apply) Cobras aren’t competitive, they carry an unfair advantage and get asked to not return.
So did they ask last years winner to not come back?
Love that sound, like an angry old man!

Maybe next year you can park the trailer a couple/three miles from the track. Load up your tools and gear in a chase truck. Drive up to the event, check in, beat the snot out of everyone (AGAIN), place the trophy in the footwell and drive out the gate while waving the middle finger at everyone that is still not rubbing their foreheads wondering what the hell just spanked them.

A impressive display both of the car and the driver. From back in the day ... to today ... and still dusting the competition!

Kind of reminded me of seeing Bob Hoover years ago, flying a P51

I just received my copy of Hot Rod Magazine yesterday and it has a nice picture of the Cobra and driver in it.

Line under the picture was, " The overall winner proved to be Bruce Cambern's entry, which is believed to be the last original-owner 427 Cobra other than Shelby's personal car. We love that he flogged it so hard and destroyed the muscle cars in on-track performance."

I'm still scratching my head over how he come he lost the "best looking" part of the contest. I mean just LOOK at it, is that a thing of beauty or what???

Worth noting that I believe he did pull the original engine and but in an 800hp Shelby aluminum block. The original is crated and stored.

Doug, the dry sump, fuel injected all out race motor is the tip of the iceberg, we won't even go there as it concerns the suspension...

Anyway, how "stock" do you think the car's he was running against were? I rest my case!!! Modifications to the Cobra simply leveled the playing field.
