Don't forget the roll bar and hood scoop deletion, Sunburst wheels, bumpers (delete quick jacks), splitter, gas cap, convertible top, as well as the "street" dash and gauges. Also, the flares of the wheelwells are different. But, I'll let the experts add and correct me.

Yes, it can be done, but not cheaply.

fiberglass repair

yes, it can be done. A very good paint guy may be able to spot paint it but most likely you will need a complete paint job.

.

Since it is your car, you can decide to change whatever you want and don't want to change.

here is my "street" cobra. Bumpers and No side pipes. Still with S/C roll bar, dash, scoop, gas filler.

I'd wager that some very large number of replicas (not to mention some originals) mix the features. 707 is almost entirely street except for the hood scoop, roll bar and side pipes.

Very easy fix, find the right shop and may not need complete paint. My big block car is under car exhaust with modified hoodscoop, roll bar, flares, just the way I built it.Satisfies the owner, that's all that matters.

Can easily be done. How expensive depends on which kit you decide to do the conversion on.

Forgot to mention,to keep the exhaust tucked up tight, the rear cross member where the frame transitions up over the rear end,had to have half circle cutouts for the pipes to go through. Also made clearance to put a decent set of custom mufflers, and metal plated under the floor as a heat shield, just to be sure would have no issues.

TButtrick 01-11-2010 06:41 AM

Aside from patching the sidepipe exit, the ease of converting to under car exhaust is VERY dependent on the replica you have. I know FFRs can be a biatch.

Thanks guys , thats some good info. Am I right in thinking new headers ? What about bigblocks , I'm assuming that will make it more difficult , impossible if its a SPF , are there any other popular kits where a bigblock means no undercar exhaust ?

SDR,

Do you have a kit now or are you shopping? With most kits, the sidepipe exit is cutout after the body is popped from the mold. You can simply tell the manufacturer to leave them be if you're going under-car exhaust. Nothing is impossible and I've seen more than a few SPFs street cars. Check out this thread. I mean seriously, isn't this just the ugliest thing you've ever seen?!

You are going to have to get custom headers for under the car exhaust, unless you have an original type frame, and I think Cobra Restorers has a tri-Y set up. I think Gibson? makes street rood short tube headers thay may fit some chassis's, summit racing has a list of street rodder headers for FE, 385 application. Superformance has manifolds for 351W for under the car exhaust, I'm not sure for BigBlocks.

TButtrick 01-11-2010 05:41 PM

Holy crap man! No offense but , what is with that top?

Still looking Buttrick . My thoughts are a used cobra , in this economy , is the way to go . ( Some guy once told me not to build to save money ;) ). But S/C's are more popular than street , and I prefer the look , safety and don't hate me ; the sound .

Every time I see a picture of this car I think that this is about as good as a car can look. Drop dead gorgeous.

My street roadster is seen in post #28 of the thread referenced above. It is a combination of both S/C and roadster features. Roadster exhaust, bumperettes and dashboard. S/C hood scoop. Roll bar is neither. The stripes add a little bling. If I can just have one car, mine is the way I want it. It is just that that green car is so pure.

Jack
