Wow... somebody buy this car!!!

Saw this while on Fleabay whilest I had down time at work... nobody tell my boss please.

Screaming deal on a Daytona minus the engine & tranny. I'm sooo tempted to make offer of around 60% of their asking and see if they bite but I don't have the extra cash at the moment. Somebody's gonna score big here!

thudmaster 01-25-2010 03:22 PM

I can't think of a reason to buy it..........:) gonna cost a bunch just to change it around.

Excaliber 01-25-2010 03:25 PM

With that hood I'd be embarrased to be seen in it. :)

Xavier 01-25-2010 03:38 PM

That car was driven hard, 56 passes drag racing is the equivelent of 100,000 miles (more?). Yeah, no engine but everything else.

So to bring it back to a Daytona coupe would cost about $20k? Maybe more? Easier just to start off with something new.

This is a great buy for a person who want to drag race a Daytona Coupe. No more.

Black Mamba 01-25-2010 04:08 PM

Well I kinda figured the sum value of the parts alone would easily exceed what you could get it for. 23 hours left? Contact the owner, he may be willing to unload it for $10K or so. The hood / front clip are easily replaced since Shell Valley is still knocking these out. The paint doesn't float my boat but if you're gonna build a Daytona you have to paint anyways don't you? Remove some of the drag stripe get up and it's street-able.

OK, maybe not what you all are looking for. Somebody slap me and send me back to the corner.

Excaliber 01-25-2010 04:12 PM

OK, it's a good buy for the right person. I would really like a Coupe and I would actually consider this, but it needs a LOT of finish work so I'm not sure it's a "great" deal. No interior to speak of for instance. I wouldn't be to concerned about the mechanicals, whats left of them. I really want IRS though and that is a major deal killer right there for me. Paint it? Well sheesh, having a decent paint job already is part of the "great" price. I don't know, I think I'll pass on this one....

ZOERA-SC7XX 01-25-2010 04:36 PM

You can make that car work if you don't have to pay someone else to do it. All the basics are there except for the running gear, and you can source a 302 w/trans for cheap. I say take a shot (make an offer). You can always saw off that god awful hood scoop.

Excaliber 01-25-2010 05:01 PM

Got that right Zoera! A decent "donor" engine/trans, a used third member 9" pumpkin and a Harbor Freight sawzall (for the hood :) , 'cause,,, well,,, dam...) and BAM, you got yourself a Coupe for cheap!

Heck I should do this!! :)

brobehr 01-25-2010 05:44 PM

oh good grief

Got the Bug 01-25-2010 05:49 PM

If someone wanted to build a purpose built drag racer, it seems like the right car at a decent price. No way I would try to convert it to the street.

Excaliber 01-25-2010 06:21 PM

$39 bucks baby, this is all you need to get it right! :)

dcdoug 01-25-2010 07:52 PM

I wouldn't want to even get caught standing next to that car. All wrong for anything other than someone who only wants a light car for drag racing (and it just happens to be in a bastardized coupe body).

Bernica 01-25-2010 08:12 PM

Color? Hood? Running gear after how many runs (that they admit)?? Retrofit to something resembling a coupe??$$
There was an old saying about stuffing $20 bills up a pig's ****. Or, maybe it was something about purses and sow's ears...
I'll take a pass on this one, thank you.

StreetSnake 01-25-2010 08:38 PM

I haven't had the opportuntity to see very many daytonas up close. Is shell valley not a good replica for the daytona or is it just thing one in particular. That goes without saying the hood is a bit crazy looking. I'm somewhat interested, so pick it apart!!:)

Excaliber 01-25-2010 08:52 PM

Oh I don't think Shell Valley is a bad deal. The thing is, and it's true with SO many replicas, is that any given build can vary widely, even wildly, from one to the other. That is a primary reason why some folks prefer complete rollers, like an SPF, or a McDonalds hamburger. Always consistent! Some folks like to build their own burger, or buy one built "their way". :) Some of them home built burgers are terrific, others are a disaster. Choose wisely as you go forth, grass hopper.

Then you have the gourmet burgers, thats a whole 'nother can of worms right there.

I found brobehr's comment to be especially on target...

jayscobras 01-25-2010 08:56 PM

I thought there might be a question here until I reread that he didn't have the money to swing the deal.

Jay

ZOERA-SC7XX 01-26-2010 05:34 AM

If you noticed, all the naysayers here have factory built Cobras. The guys who can see beyond the ugly orange paint & other items are guys who can and did build their own cars. You just gotta have foresight.

trularin 01-26-2010 07:18 AM

Ernie, use the high speed body saw they sell, the sawsall makes too much mess.

I have an FE for that if you want it.

Hi Jay!

:D :D

Black Mamba 01-26-2010 08:33 AM

One mans trash is another mans treasure is how the saying goes. While it is (to me) one fugly looking Daytona, it's not as god awful as some Cobra's I've seen turned into auto X cars, monster mudders, pimped out low riders, etc. The thing is there is potential for a good price which is why I set up the link in the first place. Many here like to turn a wrench, yield a blow torch, and do a little grinding here and there. That is who I directed this to, not necessarily the prebuilt - have somebody else detail my car crowd.

A few hours left, somebody can probably get it for pennies on the dollar. If not, then no sweat off my...

Excaliber 01-26-2010 08:37 AM

It's a good thread Mamba. We've had some fun with it, got a chuckle out of me from time to time AND somebody might seriously be interested in it.

Like I said before, for the right person, this is a good deal. Now if that guy will throw in a high speed saw, heck, I'm in! :)
