A Snake,
No, what I’m saying is if we had all known that 3021 never sold for 3.5M that maybe a more realistic reserve (and I have no idea what the owner had set for his reserve)would have been set on the Turd. We use past sales to reflect on what a car might bring at auction now.

The past sales history of similar cars does influence future sales but I don’t see the comparison of CSX2196 with CSX3021 (besides the last auction for CSX3021 was a year ago, sale or no sale). One might compare CSX3021 with the recent sale of CSX3006.
CSX2196 is unique and I would have a hard time comparing it with other Cobras. Thus, what is a realistic reserve for CSX2196? I think it comes down to a willing buyer and willing seller that agree to a price. As yet it appears that has not happened.

We all know this might not be the right time to get top dollar on any cobra but when as Ned said an SC got a bid of 3.5M a year ago and we had a 5M sale on the Super Cobra then one might believe a one only cobra like the Turd, is now worth what 10M at reserve. It’s not apples and oranges its worth, versus reality. I guess this is why most of us live in a Cobra replica world.

From on-line Motor Trend, January 7 2009. I could not find a link for the 2009 Ft. Lauderdale Beach Collector Car Auction results. I asked the Auction company to confirm. If I receive a reply, will post

" Turner announced that the Cobra would appear at the 2009 Ft. Lauderdale Beach collector Car Auction and the speculation began. Some thought the going price to be as high as $5 million, while Cobra forums gave a more reasonable $2 million. At the auction, an unnamed buyer offered the $3 million-plus final bid and the car sold. Later, the same buyer would pick up another Cobra, a green CSX 2311 with some rare options including dual carbs and painted wire wheels, for $572,400. "

I think you can take any sale older than 2 years and throw it out the window in this economy. We saw that with teh Daytona Coupe Mecum thought (or hoped) would bring $10 Mill only to not have it reach $6M the first time around(and I beeluive that was some shadow bidding going on.

I have a pdf formatted brochure from the 15th annual Ft. Lauderdale auction that was held on Jan. 2, 3 & 4 2009 With CSX3021, CSX2311, 1964 Ford Thunderbolt, 1957 Ford Thunderbird, 1970 Mustang Boss 302, 1969 Mustang Boss 429S, & 1961 Ford Starliner all at no reserve & were on the auction block from the Bill & Suzanne Turner collection. All were sold including CSX3021 until the new owner walked away. This is what happens at a no reserve auction unless you the owner are the only person present.

As I mentioned before, the new owner of 2311 lives nearby. I think it's time to call him up and inquire if he also bid on 3021 and, if so, why didn't he end up with it? I'll report back.
