It sounds like it would be worthwhile to have a conversation with Jody. I've always been under the impression that you had to have the MSO in hand to get an SB100 sequence number, but MY500SS's experience seems to refute that.

How is your car titled? Also, was the BAR sticker on the car when you bought it? Normally, SB100 is the only way to avoid periodic smog checks.

It is titled as a 0000 SPCN. The BAR sticker was on it when I bought it.

This has come up a couple different times and I have been told that I have no problem but sometimes it just makes me a little nervious.

Per the DMV website: "Proof of ownership, such as invoices, receipts, manufacturers’ certificates of origin, bills of sale, or junk receipts for the major component parts (engine, frame, transmission, and body)."

Tim, anything is possible at the DMV. However, I think the Santa Clara DMV knows what they're doing, so they would probably ask you, like they did for me, "Where's your MSO?"

MY500SS doesn't tell us what he did present to the DMV to get his certificate #.

Terry, just my opinion of course, but if your title states 0000 SPCN and you have a BAR sticker, then I think you're fine. The sequence number probably came up when they decided to limt them to 500 each year.

Is there anything at all written on the "comment" line of the BAR tag?

I agree with Rodney. If an issue ever did arise, your car is correctly titled. My guess is that you have nothing to worry about.

The BAR tag just states that it is an Engine ID tag. It states the "year, engine displacement, yada-yada-yada, and states that the smog equipment req is a PCV".

It does have a BAR # on it in red lettering.

I think just as long as you have a checkbook Tim, they would accept your mothers chippinio recipe to get going.

I wouldnt worry too much about having the paperwork ready on inception, just having it 110% clear and honest on delivery ( after jumping through hoops ) is the key/idea.

Taking off can be rough, but just as long as your landing is smooth. --

Sounds like there are somewhat different procedures between DMV offices, which is par for the course.

Since I plan to go to the Santa Clara DMV when the time comes, I'll go by their rules of engagement. Their process has been proved to be successful by many here on CC, for obtaining an SB-100 number.

I had the invoice from Shelby, invoice from the engine builder, invoice of parts needed to complete and a estimated cost to finish car. The manager from the Van Nuys DMV allowed the SB-100 as long as I paid all taxes and DMV fees.

The DMV paperwork lists the following requirements needed to complete registration.
1) Title from state of MSO.
2) CHP inspection cert.
3) Brake and light adjustment cert.
4) Smog inspection cert. as required.

I went to the Van Nuys DMV because I was told the manager there was the most knowledgeable person when it came to SB-100 and could help me get going without the MSO.

I live in San Diego and i just bought a roadster from a dealership in Indiana. Does anyone know of a DMV in San Diego or San Diego Surroundings that is Knowledgeable of the SB100? The car will not be here until Friday, but i have all the paper work on hand. Thanks

None in the area are very knowledgeable.

Be prepared to beg for them to call Sacramento to see if there are any numbers left. The local office will swear that they were all taken on the first day of the year. They are wrong about that.

Make sure you are there well before 5pm, as Sacramento closes at 5 and no phone calls can be made to them after this time.

Numbers may be all gone, but if you get resistance from your person, ask for a supervisor to make the call to Sacramento for you. Just say that a friend recently registered his and was told by their DMV that there were numbers still available.

If none left, get a temporary operating permit and plan to go back next year to finish the process.

You might want to send a PM to "xlr8or", a Club Cobra member, who lives in the San Diego area and has been through the SB100 process at least twice with a Kirkham and an FFR Coupe. He's a very nice person and extremely knowledgable.
