Default Help from Monterey CA or vicinity locals

I was wondering if anyone knew of any trustworthy mechanic, car professional, enthusiast, etc. that would be able to go check out a 1965 Mustang I am interested in purchasing. The car is located in Seaside CA, just 5 minutes up the road from Laguna Seca Raceway; very close to Carmel and Monterey.

It's a tracked prepped 65 Mustang. I live in North Carolina and am trying to figure out how I can work this.

I would appreciate any of thoughts or suggestions. Thanks.

You might try sending an email or PM to Steve (PANAVIA on CC). Steve is part of the New Mustang Ranch in Santa Clara and I'm sure he can recommend a local resource to help you out.

I called Steve at New Mustang Ranch; he wasn't there but Joe was super knowledgeable and helpful.

As for the buy (on Ebay - I know, I know, but it looked like a good deal on a car that was pretty much exactly what I was looking for), I was able to find out some history about the car; turns out the seller probably materially and significantly misrepresentated the car's history, his relationship to the car, and who knows what else.

Receipts that he said he had that he would give me after I won the bid were not provided and didn't look like I was ever going to get them based on what I found out. I asked for references from people that knew the car from his car club/racing clubs; he didn't want to give me any. I spoke to someone that was involved with the car in the past and their stories were completely different and did not reflect well at all on the seller.

Long story (somewhat) short, we canceled the deal.

No money lost, no harm done...

Thanks for the responses to my request for assistance; we'll get 'em next time.

Regards.

fastd,

Glad you did not get stuck with a bad deal on this car. You are smart to do your homework, sadly a lot of folks are not as diligent … once again, words to the wise ring true, Caveat Emptor.
