Thinking of Moving to a carb setup
Im thinking of moving away from the FI setup I currently have and moving to a carb set up. Im curious as to what carb and manifold you guys would recommend. I have heard good things about pro systems carbs, what else should I be looking at?

Need more info to make a good recommendation.
Engine specs and car use info would help greatly. |
I might be going with a single carb myself, putting the dual fours on the back burner. I've been doing some auto crossing lately and the dual fours just are not working out due to the extreme cornering.
So what would I look for? A carb specifically designed for road racing, that is where I would start my research as to which one, which brand and go from there. |
For a 427ci Windsor, I'd do a Victor Jr. If you're running a solid roller and turning some rpms with good heads, a Super Victor would do well.
I use Quick Fuel carbs on all my engines. Excellent carbs, no issues. |

The only two carb builders/tuners I have used are http://www.davinciperformance.com/ and http://www.pro-system.com/
Both are outstanding tuners/ fuel flow designers. both make a auto cross specific carb. |
Pro Systems 830CFM DP.
Same carb they recommended for my engine. Similar specs as yours. Also try an Edelbrock dual plane intake manifold. Great all around use. Street and autocross. |
What am I looking at price wise for a pro systems carb ? Also any recomendations the ignition?

Original road racing carb would of course be a Holley with center pivot float, which I'm considering. Intake, in my case, has to be a high riser to match the heads. Now thats where it get's tricky, I've seen some heads that claim to be a high riser, but in fact they are using a different definition of the word(s) and the ports don't match the "real" high riser heads.
Looks like $500 to $700 for a GOOD carb, ball park. Blykins, what kind of price range you talking about? |

Thats three new Avons. Then of course you would need a Turkey pan, another $400 or so. Course, I could use a "real" Turkey pan.... :) |
You were talking $600-$700 for just the carb, so with the intake didnt seem that bad.

Throw in another $100 for linkage, grand total pushing $2,000.

Although it does seem to be NOS stuff.....that's always a nice to have. I'm tempted to see if they have another one of those carbs lying around.....

For a Quick Fuel Q-850, you're looking at around $625 + shipping. These are basically drag race carbs, no chokes, billet metering blocks, mechanical secondaries, jet extensions, etc. On your engine, I would probably go with a Victor FE if you're going to be doing a lot of road racing. On Mark's engine, a Victor Jr would be ideal in my opinion...427 cubic inches is enough volume to tame down a single plane intake. |
