Default Hylomar gasket sealer

Any one try this stuff on sealing intake gaskets? This was used exclusively on Rolls Royce aircraft engines.

Can you guys say a little more about this sealer? I have never herd of Hylomar before and just stumbled on it from the Ford Truck Forum. I am looking to use this to seal my intake gaskets, or do you recomend something else?

I think I used to use them to seal the two crankcase halves of VW/Porsche engines (back in the '70s).

It was originally used for sealing acft crankcase halves ( machined aluminum surfaces, no gasket other than one or two lines of thread) on RR acft engines in WWII, when the only other sealer was a shellac type that would dry out and leak. It is still a popular item in present day acft recips and porsche/vw engine builds. Don't know how good it would be in other applications, or if the formulation has been changed since permatex bougght it.

The Brits make some of the leakiest engines on the planet. I've used it on Triumph bike engines if it works for RR.............

We use it alot at the power plants but only on machine surface to machine surface with no gasket aplications. It is non hardening and it will not set up like RTV. It's great stuff when used correctly.
