I have had similar experiences at car shows and had the same motivation for going, just to have fun and tryout a car show.

Now that I am wiser to how these events work I drive my cobra to the show and park nearby. I go in as a spectator, enjoy the event and when I go back to my cobra to drive home there is almost always a crowd around it. And of course leaving the event always draws interest.
