Smiths Water Temp Fitting Question
Searched and didn't find anything conclusive. I am needing to fit my Smith's water temp probe in to my FE aluminum 2x4 intake. The gauge has a inside threaded nut at the probe end and I gather I need a threaded fitting with NPT on one end and possibly BSP on the other. Can anyone comment on a source for this fitting and the exact sizes?
Thanks.
Jim

You need a bushing....NPT-M on one end, NPT-F on the other end.
I can't remember the exact size of the sending unit, but you can just go to ACE hardware, Lowes, Home Depot, etc, and get a (for example) 3/8"NPT male fitting that has a 1/4"NPT female end on it. It should be called a reducer or a hex bushing.

So you are sure the British Smith's end is not a BSP thread? I am traveling and don't want to find out Friday when I get back to Houston Friday, then be unable to order it in with time to get it fired up this weekend.

Actually, no, I'm not sure. I was thinking of MY Smith gauges, which were made by Auto Meter. :-)
Can you call Finish Line or someone that sells them? Or have someone look and tell you if the thread is tapered or straight?

Now I didn't put this in -- the elves in New Britain did. But here's a shot...

I just did, thanks. Now I need to confirm what thread size and pitch is in the hole in the manifold. Aluminum Ford 2x4 medium riser. Anyone? Bueller?

I wish I could be more certain, but my bet is 1/2 NPT.

Thanks for the input guys, but I have it handled. In my case its a 3/8" x 18 NPT to 3/8" BSP.
