Street Beast, Yay or Nay?
I found what looks like a fairly decent deal on a Street Beast Cobra. Anything I need to look out for? Any info anybody wants to volunteer?

If it sounds too good to be true, especially in this day and age, I'd walk away from it at a faster pace than usual.

Do some research. These guys are from Florida, the scam state. They were under a different name a few years back under investigation by the atourney general and changed their name to Street Beasts. Took peoples money, did not ship the kits and if they did half the parts were missing. There were stories of customers chasing them for over a year or more for the back ordered parts. Like Mr Mustang said walk away fast. You asked for advice, you got it.

I have lived in Florida now for around 15 years and most of the guys talking have never seen a Street Beast cobra I have seen them and they are not that bad of a replica. The original company and now Street Beast has gotten their bad rep because they never delivered the parts paid for etc. If you are looking at a completed cobra and the asking price is reasonable go for it.

If you have access to the parts list and all the parts are there then its probably up to your build skills. I've seen one and the frame is ok and the body is ok. There are several around here who have finished examples.

John the most important part of that kit would be the MSO...Manufacturers Statement of Origin...if it he dosent have that then run away as fast as you can...other than that use your best judgement on the quality of whats there and if your not sure take a friend that knows something about cars with you...double check everything...

SORRY! Original post was honest and to the point, but I would just be another guy that the "owner" has and still IS suing people for stating the facts! I would love to have bottomless pockets, I'd hire Jamo and the other Pros to......

Unless you enjoy frustration and throwing money down the drain, find something else. Now, after fixing a ton of problems and such, mine is almost done and will look as good as any other. It's just all the problems I had to work through. |

If you search CL all through the US. You will find more unfinished SB's then probably all the others combined.

Look at their frames and compare them to others out there. They surely aren't as strong as the others. Just my opinion, I've been around race cars in one form or another for the past 40 years, wrenching on them.

I didn't think the frame was too bad, but the bodies had a bit to be desired. I've seen a few where the rear trunk section was molded incorrectly. It made the passenger side sit about 1-1.5" higher than the driver's side and threw off the whole car.
Whatever you decide, be sure he gives you every single receipt. |
The MSO is the most important part of a kit car, without it you cannot (in most states) get a title for your car...dont buy one without it...

,,,,,and the search continues. I almost feel sorry for the guy. It was his dream car that he got for himself for his 60th b'day. Loses his job and after 2 years has to sell it. I have no doubt that I could work my way through about any issue, but why?

or Classic Motor Carriages or Mother Fiberfab. You're not buying the company. If there is a complete set of parts to build the car and you are comfortable with you skill level to build it, it looks to me like a very good deal. I have built two of them and the owner of my first one that is 18 years old, is also very pleased with it.The second one is better yet. First one was color gel coated and never needed painted after rain, snow, countless hours on track and 15k miles.
Pics reflect money value has been put into the car. Check with rod shops about the licensing process for "home-builds" with ALL receipts. My first car had a MSO, PA did NOT have procedure to transfer on from private individual to another.?? I built my first kit in '78. The marketing side of all kit companys historically ruins the company or the logistics of parts deliverys. If the parts are there, you are over the hump.Looks like a lot of fun. Good luck Joe |
They were a nice kit and I'm some pleased with mine.The customer service was terrible.Bought mine in 93, took me a couple of years to get all the parts.Dealt with Street Beasts several years ago for new hood and it was great.Got the hood a week after it was ordered,it fit like it came off the car.Can only speak from what little I know about them.Can say this some people never forget and Street Beasts will always be chastized because of the past bad Co.Good Luck

So this " WRONG INFORMATION" is not continued on without pause, ALL of the mentioned CMC companies, REGARDLESS of the latest names, ARE owned by the same individual! Yes, they did get better as far as supplying parts once the Fed. Gov. forced them to supply all parts within a certain time frame. People do the research, don't depend on "Hearsay" as written in this post including my posts. Get the hardcore information for yourself! personally fixed every frame we had from "them", fixed ever body panel we ever worked on. Here's an example: Every '34 Ford we built, (Classics by Elite, inc.- 1972/1997) that was from CMC, etc. had to have major work done to at least one of their doors. I.E.; finally getting the doors to hinge to the body, the bottom of the door ALMOST closed right but window frame was so moulded out of shape a guy could stick his hand in the car up to his elbow with the door closed! I could repeat a horror story told to me (real hearsay evidence) by one of the Kit Car editors, (Name with Held to protect the editor) That relayed information to me about a personnel inspection he did of "the" company AFTER they Improved! With their invitation! DV |
Forgot about the 34's. Buddy had one and the doors NEVER fit. The side that sat in direct sunlight would bind and warp. Problem solver- turn car around so that side cooled down and then the other side did the same. No hearsay- saw it first hand! When he parked car on a twist, well you can imagine what that caused with the frame design and structure the way they were! Had to move car to get out.
