Post Footbox pedal designs....

Eventually I am planning a total makeover of my 24yr old Midstates. During this time I have found a few things that need to be redesigned. The most important one is the location of the pedals. Currently mine are the hanger type. What I don't like about this system is that the Master cylinders are directly above the headers. The heat from them headers heat up the brake fluid unnecessarily. It only becomes critical on the track. If you are not using brakes aggressively then there is no real big issue.
What I want to do is relocate the master cylinders under the floor and I would like the MC's to face towards the rear. If they face the front then they will still be near the headers. I believe that the Butler cars have them facing rearward.
Question... Are the any other Cobras that face the MC's towards the rear?
If anyone has photos of a good way to do this please post them. As long as I'm doing this I want to do it right so all ideas welcome.
My Daughter and son-in-law will have this Cobra eventually and I want it safe and looking good.

The ERA setup is proprietary, but I think there are some "top mounts" that can be flipped for floor mounting.

I have a Wilwood hanging pedal set I'm looking to sell that puts the master cylinders behind the hanger into the footbox. I also have 2 of the 3 master cylinders you will need for this set.
The Pedal set is Wilwood # 340-3342.

WOW....24 years that has to be some sort of a record for the longest owned Midstates...
a true survivor for sure....make it shine like a new penny....glad to hear that you are
overhaulin that Midstates instead of replaceing it....take lots of pics. and share them with us...

Rusty Bob. It was one of the first bodies out of the
newer molds that Midstates made. I bought it in 1987 at the first R&G.

Larry,
That was the first thing I thought of 15yrs ago so I made this so called heat shield. I took some of that thermo mat and sandwiched it between two pieces of 24 gauge aluminum. I shaped it to fit under the MC's and bolted it to the footbox. It was an inch above the headers and about an inch and a half from the MC's. It had a small effect as I only got two more laps before the brakes mushed. I will admit that it got even better with Motul racing fluid. The stuff is magic. Even with all that it wasn't what it should be.
Remote reservoirs would probably be a good way to go if they are mounted away from the headers.
Even doing that would require a lot of additional fabrication and possibly different MC's.

Talk to nick at Acton Custom aka Mickmate on this board. I think that the floor mount setup that he makes and uses on the Contemporary cars will fit our midstates as well. I am also re doing a 20+ year old midstates. Nick just provided me with an OEM CSX dimensioned roll bar for my midstates.

Maybe you could try sandwiching some Aerogel insulation between two sheets of stainless or aluminum to form a super heat shield. You can buy the stuff on eBay:

Mickmate makes a trick unit. I like it a lot. First I'm going to see what limits I have when I take this thing apart.

Or, you can do like me and modify a superformance pedal assembly to fit in your car. This allows for much longer pedals and the correct pivot ratio. Worked for me!
