Don't know about cancer, but my SL600 gave me neck problems from the acceleration, and I'm afraid the Cobra will be worse.

Diesel exhaust is carcinogen. Gasoline fumes and gasoline engine exhaust are NOT particularly carcinogenic. Benzene is found in gasoline and it is a carcinogen. The EPA is requiring gasoline to have substantially lower benzene in gasoline starting in 2011. It is not good to breath too much of almost anything. Second hand smoke is much worse than gasoline. Besides, I'm sure you are more likely to die in a Cobra crash than of Cancer from breathing exhaust gases. Back in the old days you used to be able to run your car in the garage and dye of carbon monoxide poisoning. Catalytic converters changed all that. Our Cobras will generate plenty of CO to kill you in your garage.

I can understand some carbon monoxide concerns (try to keep air moving) and hearing loss (wear ear plugs), but is cancer a realistic possibility?

my SPF does not have the side pipes next to my head, they are placed about three feet below, and thus when travelling the fumes would dissipate. The only thing I inhale is the free air that is blowing in my face.**) tin-man |

I guess the most obvious observation is that if you're driving with the side pipes next to your head you're probably doing it wrong....... ;)

the sulfur dioxide coming from a catalytic converter will kill you quicker than exhaust from your cobra.....

I did hear of a Fountain powerboat dealer (at least 15 years ago) got cancer in the hair follicles just at the top of his forehead. Went into his brain, that was that.
Made me always try and wear a hat when boating. Not sure if this same thing would apply in a cobra or convertible, because there is no reflection off the water etc. Sounds very rare, still easy to take steps to prevent

I would be a lot more worried about the ringing in my ears getting worse than lung cancer.My exhaust does exit the rear of the car not for cancer but for the looks,ease of getting in and out of the car,and personally the car looks great with belly exhaust.

Classic example of someone who's "just asking for a dose of cancer" from breathing the exhaust fumes. He may be at less risk since he doesn't put a whole lot of miles on his car but says that will change as soon as he gets his periscope perfected.

The EPA has forced the reduction in sulfur in gasoline too. It used to be limited to 1,000 ppm, but starting in about 2006 (?) the max is 80 ppm and the average is less than 30 ppm sulfur in gasoline. The benefit of lower sulfur is not to reduce the sulfur dioxide in the air, it is to help the catalytic converters to last longer. It is a good thing.

I think I would be worried about the outside air quality. Like inversion, city pollution, or large diesel pickups with there tail pipes next to me. My guess, any health threat sitting in a cobra for under 5 thousand miles a year would be minimal.
