I must backtrack on my comments about Roush

Boy, is that the truth, I checked my bank records on the money transfer to Roush and they received the final payment for the engine-tranny combo on August 31, 2010, and four months on I am still waiting for two parts to complete the assemby and finish the install. Just don't seem right, even after several calls from Eric of Voss Performance to Roush and several emails from me to Mark at the Roush engine build facility. I am fearful this has all the makings of a really bad omen given the original build time for the engine was extended by four months due to vendor issues with some of the part tolerances.

Being a manufacturing guy I can understand how these tolerances issues can surface, but to have missed out packing and sending the two spacer plates that are required for the engine-tranny hook-up is arguably the result of some serious infrastructure check-off protocols not being applied during the final packing and shipping stages of the entire sales transaction.

Kinda makes me wonder what else is missing, huh? that said, I guess I can be forgiving when I drive the Cobra and the engine performs well, but bein' out of pocket US$50+large and not being able to even start the engine is causing me a lot of "angst" and I am desperatly trying to keep the notion of a **** storm of biblical proportions from brewing, but its hard knowing I placed the order with Roush in January of 2010 and the transaction has yet to close, one year later.

I guess the term Caveat Emptor is appropriate for all you newbies who are considering getting a Roush engine and I am really sorry to have to say that, but my experience compels me to pass on the advice.:mad:

Seems that Roush is not at fault in this matter of Voss Performance not having the spacers. The spacers were shipped from Roush in November but got missplaced at Voss. Erick's got a lot of splainin' to do.:mad::mad: In any event I now know its just a matter of time before I get my completed ride. Hooooray. tin-man

patrickt 01-06-2011 06:23 AM

Well, that's progress, I guess. So what's the ETA for actually having your butt in the seat?

tin-man 01-06-2011 10:21 PM

Yep, but there is a back story to this......

I am delighted that the spacers have found a home, seems that they did arrive at Voss Performance as stated but only on December 22, and in another crate engine from Roush, so dear readers it would seem our friends at Roush were indeed the causal effect behind the delay. The parts were not lost at Erick's place and Erick was kind enough to splain' this to me so I have rectified my comments accordingly. That said I do not have a firm date yet when the ride will be ready, I am guessing sometime in early February. I'll post more build picture over this weekend. Cheers, John AKA, tin-man

CoupedUp 01-06-2011 11:06 PM

Glad it all worked out and hope you get in the seat soon. Erick did my coupe build three years ago and he is the only one who I let touch my car. Just picked it up tonight with new suspension and new front brakes. I track my car often now and would not trust my car or my life to anyone else. Good luck with the rest of the build!

Thanks, only issue is the monster, aka Beast of Roushwerks and his torque buddy, once transformed into one homogenious mass of power will then get shoved into that fine little lady Gazelle from South Africa and seein' that everyone calls their Cobra a "she" has me stuck for a name at the moment, but I am guessing she will be one hellova mean B**** with an attitude that decidedly demands the greatest of respect and will not hesitate to engage me in a smackdown contest if I even think of getting "frisky" with my foot on one of her hot buttons. Sorta reminds me of some of the ladies I've met in my lifetime, but that's another story for another time.:eek: John, AKA, tin-man

Engines finally in, well sort of......

Got the tranny and engine installed and Erick tells me he swears he heard the Beast of Roushwerks say "Hey B***H, whooz ya Daddy now" during the insertion process.:eek:

That said, the engine had to be yanked out again since the bolt hole pattern for the starter motor did not match up, go figure.........Bowler Transmissions is expediting the replacement over the weekend..:CRY::CRY: :mad::mad tin-man

tin-man 01-15-2011 11:01 PM

WTF? Pulling an engine back out because the starter motor doesn't match up with the holes? That doesn't make sense. It can be tricky to get to one of the bolts with the primaries on, in fact I think we went over that ad nauseam in my lame, but lengthy and mildly entertaining, thread on lockwashers this past summer. But pulling the engine back out because the starter's bolt configuration doesn't match up to the block and bellhousing?!? Someone will have to explain that one to me....

EDIT -- I remembered you're getting an auto trans in that thing, maybe that's it.... Still seems strange to me, though.

Blas 01-16-2011 10:28 AM

Do I see power steering and air conditioning on that engine?

madmaxx 01-16-2011 11:00 AM

Ultra cool, thanks for sharing!!!

rodneym 01-16-2011 05:54 PM

I spot 5 too many of those little wheelie thingy majiggers on that belt:eek:
I think tin-man has every available option on the motor and roller.

Tin Man, when your done, post a little video of that beast so we all can see!

tin-man 01-16-2011 08:05 PM

just power steering and power breaks, no aircon, who needs aircon in Arizona? All those thingies are to sort out the tension in the belts.**) I hear ya on the vid, when its done and that's a big when, I will surely do that. Cheers, tin-man:MECOOL:

I understand Bowler supplied a plate for a standard Ford FE starter motor bolt hole pattern, but the truck starter motor BHP that we are using was off sufficiently that both Roush and Bowler agreed to the change. While this is another timeline set back I am of the opinion that its not entirely uncommon to yank the engine once installed since all the best laid plans don't always work. THat said whatever happened to the notion to get it right the first time ???? John AKA, tin-man:CRY::CRY:

Nope, just power breaks, no aircon. got enough loot into this beast so far and didn't think I needed aircon. John, AKA, tin-man

I've heard some interesting comments regarding a power steering upgrade on SPF's....

tin-man 01-16-2011 09:12 PM

do tell, don't leave everyone in a pregnant silence. I tried the none power steering and just about wrenched my shoulder trying to turn into a parking bay at Superformance in Irvine. Seems like a reasonable addition?? So lay it on us. tin-man
