Has anyone got experience driving MT's and compared them to Avons???? John, maybe its a price thing too, not everyone is gonna drop that kind of money on tires and then do burnouts, just don't make any sense. After I get ride acquainted and have developed stronger gonads to get the speed higher than 25MPH and daringly, tried doing some "creative driving" ala autocross, I'll probably go and get some Avons and come back to this forum and say, John Hall AKA,Silverback 51, you were right. In the meantime I'm going to enjoy my car and hopefully don't kill myself. Cheers, John, AKA, tin-man:) |
Ron, you're right, its lookin more like February.

Well at least I got to get a feely touchy experience and saw the roller from all angles, checked out the Mickey T's, paid my respects to the Beast and his torque [really mean lookin'] and took a pile of pictures. Eric of Voss Performance tells me he will be driving the car for well over 100 miles during the pre-hand over phase to sort out any "issues", debug rattles, screw tightening phase, etc. so that's good. Certainly better than me drivin' in Phoenix six months later and finding several "issues" and having it shipped back to California for fixin'.:CRY: Anyway, while slightly dissapointed I can wait an' jus' keep lookin' at the pictures and yelling varooom, varoom. So, dear readers, tin-man wishes all, a fine Christmas Holiday, and a New Year filled with Joy, Happiness, Good Health and all the pleasures that come to you while driving your Cobra. Cheers, John, AKA, tin-man |
Keep the faith, no excuse not having the car done months ago in my opinion. Somebody/Everybody is dropping the ball on this one.

The delays and waiting are frustrating, I'm sure.:(
Any way you can get your $125k back? You could get a Kirkham with a nice Shelby FE with stack injection--from Gessford or Barry R.--for less money (with plenty of dough left over to buy an extra set of rims with Billboards or Avons).%/ |

[quote=tin-man;1099074]Nope, can't do that since the money has long gone by now.
Boy, is that the truth, I checked my bank records on the money transfer to Roush and they received the final payment for the engine-tranny combo on August 31, 2010, and four months on I am still waiting for two parts to complete the assemby and finish the install. Just don't seem right, even after several calls from Eric of Voss Performance to Roush and several emails from me to Mark at the Roush engine build facility. I am fearful this has all the makings of a really bad omen given the original build time for the engine was extended by four months due to vendor issues with some of the part tolerances. Being a manufacturing guy I can understand how these tolerances issues can surface, but to have missed out packing and sending the two spacer plates that are required for the engine-tranny hook-up is arguably the result of some serious infrastructure check-off protocols not being applied during the final packing and shipping stages of the entire sales transaction. Kinda makes me wonder what else is missing, huh? that said, I guess I can be forgiving when I drive the Cobra and the engine performs well, but bein' out of pocket US$50+large and not being able to even start the engine is causing me a lot of "angst" and I am desperatly trying to keep the notion of a **** storm of biblical proportions from brewing, but its hard knowing I placed the order with Roush in January of 2010 and the transaction has yet to close, one year later. I guess the term Caveat Emptor is appropriate for all you newbies who are considering getting a Roush engine and I am really sorry to have to say that, but my experience compels me to pass on the advice.:mad: tin-man |
Dont get all down and out because aholes like me shoot off at the mouth about how everyone is an idiot. In the end you will have a beast of a cobra!!!!

Sure seems like a long time to waite for your engine. I wonder why the parts needed can not be gotten somewhere else so that the car can be finished. How does it take 4 months to get a couple of small parts to finish the project. It really does sound like they are giving you the run around. Hope that they get you the parts soon.
From the calls I have been getting and what I have seen Roush has had some problems with delivery times and most say that their prices are way to high. If you paid that much for your engine you should have been top on the list in making sure all went well. Good luck, Keith |
You could always find out what parts they are missing, source them yourself, and overnight them to the shop.
Seriously, whew. I've had to wait for parts before too. But, this just doesn't sound right. There may be a back story with your build. Maybe, they are finding a way to get you some more power, or they found an error and had to start from scratch. Maybe it broke on the dyno and they had to build a new one. Feel for you no matter what. Hopefully, it will be a great build no mater what. |
Hang in there John. You have way more patience than I would ever have, but you are going to have a great car when all is said and done. I remember the first time I saw my car in person, it was so surreal. So are you back in Phoenix yet?

Tin,
Congrats on your build! This is the time period that can be stressful, believe me I know I currently own my 3rd SPF. I agree with the Avons for your car. I have had different brands of tires on other SPFs, and found these to have a much superior grip in all aspects. The other posts above about getting the power to the ground are correct. In the past I could 360, or roast the tires at will, with a much smaller motor than you have. On the Roush vs Kieth Craft issue I have other thoughts. My build http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/superformance/90431-great-asps-superformance-fe-build.html is similar to yours. The Roush selection is easy, especially if you have ever been to Roush's facility (I have 3 times), or seen their marketing. I selected Kieth Craft as he could build exactly what I wanted, even using the components I wanted. I really loved the personal side of my build at Kieth's place. Two different ways of marketing. I'm sure your 511 will serve you well, and I hope it does. :) Keep posting the pics and toss in a dyno vid (pleeeeeaaaasssseeeeee) E :D |

Regarding the dyno test results I would dealy love to upload the specs and the video of the engine being put thru its paces at Roush, its awesome, the sound is unbelieveable but I do not have a clue on how to upload a large MB base file to the Club Cobra, is there anyone out there that can advise me? Remember I do not have access to You Tube in China since it banned by the Sphincter Police so that cannot be part of the solution. GA if you send me your regular email address via PM I can send the video to you........ Cheers, John, AKA tin-man |
