Default Newbie saying Hi.

Just purchased my 1st Cobra kit car. Backdraft Racing #538. Went to Dallas from Albuquerque N.M. to pick it up. Personnal retirement present. I would like to know where to mount the chrome fire extinguisher in the Cobra? I see pictures with them mounted in different places. Is there a particular place which is more like an original location. I must also say that I am pretty impressed with the quality of this factory kit. I have built custom motorcycles for about 7 years and the detail quality is just as nice on these kits. My Cobra has a Ford Racing Boss 302 crate motor which I hope will satisfy my H.P. appetite, but you know how us ex-race people are. Is there ever enough H.P. Any guidence and recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to getting to know the members further. Bob Q.

Congrats and welcome...You are apparently mechanically equiped.. I on the other hand bought one that was factory built. I am slowly learning to become a "do it myself " owner...It's alot of fun working on these engines...alot more room under the hood to work...I own an La exotics cobra but my favorite Cobra bodies are Backdrafts...Enjoy your new addiction..

Congrats on the purchase of your BDR. I had to give up riding my Moto Guzzi after 234,000 mi. because of a bad back and just brought home a BackDraft #293 Smedling 351w T5, YaHoo what fun.

I remind people who ask me if it's a kit car that their big dollar car was parts once and does that make it a kit?

I don't have the answer for your extingusher but for you guys using powder they will settle from vibration and will be useless so have it tested every year.

Rich

Thanks to all for the welcome. RustyBob: Yea, it sounds like we have too much in common. Only, I'm probably better looking. Ha Ha. So I don't call my BDR a kit Cobra? Great as I thought it was called that. Indigo Blue with white pearl stripes. GREAT looking sled and a blast to drive. Talk to you all soon. God Bless. Bob Q.

Welcome! I came real close to buying a BDR from Jay at Vint. Motorsports until I found a B&B built by a pro shop in KS for a Doctor. Thinking at some point in time I'll go with a new BDR but for now having a blast with what I've got. You've been bitten!

Welcome again! Worst thing about these cars is winter in the north and bad weather in the south! (Means you can't drive it!)
Help us visualize your car by uploading some pictures of your new baby!

By the way Roger, who wants a BDR when they have a B&B!

I'll post some pictures once I figure out how to work this dang computer. I agree, Lots of quality cobra manufacturers out there. I'm sure each owner is just as proud of their cobra as I am. the other Bob Q.

Bob Q #1: Well, I may be getting old but I'm not dead yet. I'm not as good as I once was, but I'm once as good as I ever was. At least, I think so. The Cobra sure does get a lot more looks then I do though. Indigo Blue with White Pearl stripes. Me: 5'10" grey guy with a short beard. Who do you think wins? No doube, the car. Stay straight and upright. Bob Q #2

Fire extinguisher should be mounted where you feel comfortable grabbing it in an emergency.Mine is mounted behind the shifter.Power? we all have different needs for speed mine could only be satisfied with a big block.Remember! It is always better to have it and not need it,then to need it and not have it.

I was initially thinking the same thing. I then spoke to some BDR owners who have Roush 427's in theirs and they were regreting it. "Too much power and car would go sideways on hard exceleration." I wasn't sure that was really accurate but 3 or 4 people told me the same thing. 2 even said they wished they had the Ford Racing Boss 302 motor as it was more then enough power. I figured I'd try one with the 302. If not enough power, I can always sell this one and get one with a more powerful engine. Just my thoughts though for the time being. Listen to me, bought my 1st one and now talking about upgrading already. I think I may have the fever. Bob Q

Well said, I knew there was a reason why I chose a Big Block and you clearly defined what that reason was for me.
Thanks mdross1, tinman

Bob Q welcome to the excitement. tin-man
