Default shifting

How do you guys think a t5 wc with a pro 5.0 short throw shifter will shift with an original style shifter?, you know the galaxie shifter turned around? Does anyone on here have this combination?

Thanks for any input. Little Wave...

I'm certainly not the most knowledgable regarding transmission issues, LW, but I'd sincerely doubt it. The T5 is shifted inside the case of the transmission, whereas the original toploaders were shifted by a shifting mechanism whose arms were outside the case of the transmission. The shifter was mounted in such a manner that even the original Cobras wouldn't have been shift-ready with it mounted "correctly", so it was turned around.

The T5's shifter, however, is mounted directly above the gears.....if you put an original shifter arm on it, the knob would be either in the dash or close to the bulkhead behind the seats.

I've been mulling about the idea of replacing the shifter in mine, but haven't decided on a best choice. Like most things in this field, there's considerable discussion on this issue. Go to a Mustang forum, you'll find significant discussion:

Here's a poll and a huge thread:

YER, The t5 only has one mounting position and from what I understand it sits the shifter back pretty far so that is why I went with the backward shifter and I think that is why the origanal Cobras went with it as well.I think the shifter position will(hopfully) be ok. Just wondering if the shifter its self is a good combo with the pro 5.0.
Thanks,
Little Wave..

I have the Ford Racing WC T5 in my Unique 289 FIA. I'm not sure what a pro 5-0 is, I'm just useing the standard short -throw shifter that came with the transmission. I made a shift lever for it that angles forward like the originals did and it seems to work just fine in that location.

thepro 5.o and steeda work great and much better than standard shifter. Even with the forward shift like the originals. It has stops so as not to over shift and loose gears (how do i know that) and is spring loaded to make 2nd to 3rd very easy. Have fun
