This makes interesting reading
Hi all,
Just been reading - and adding my .02 cents worth - this 'For Sale' item CSX4048 on the site here.
You guys know more about these than I do.
Makes interesting reading though....

Ouch, that hurts just to read it. Hope he is able to get a bit of remedy but it looks like a bit of due diligence was overlooked in this case......

Reference the recent law suit Shelby LOST to FFR. Shelby was denied a trademark because there was no significant difference between an FFR and a CSX. In the written opinion of the JUDGE, he answered the often asked question: Is it real?
It is not real,,, he declared Shelby's to be replicas, just like any other replica on the market.
I'm offended by the use of the word "Continuation" in light of the Judges written opinion. It's just another slick willy sales term for what has been declared, by the COURT, to be a Shelby replica.
Here we have a buyer "taken to the cleaners" for $700,000 or so. I think it's obvious just how easy it is to use misleading terms like "Not a replica" and "Continuation". It's time to stop the BS and call it what it is: A Shelby REPLICA, period, done, end of story.
Law suit, and dang it, drag Shelby himself into it, he started this crap!

There really isn't any hard proof yet that this guy did indeed spend $700k on the car. There's a link to a PDF that doesn't show a price. Someone said that they saw the car listed for $580k.
First thing I thought was that it was a "fishing expedition"...real Cobra...best offer.

I'm with Doug. I'll need more information before I'll believe a "I just lost $500K, but everything is OK" story.
I'm still leaning on the farce side of the spectrum of believability.

If it was listed at $580K at one time, it's STILL "fraud" as there is no way the price can be justified OTHER THAN by misrepresentation.

Once somebody publishes some proof that the car was listed for $580k, I'll believe the guy was had.

I was sitting in a barber shop today reading a car sales magazine for high end cars and hot rods all over North America. I would guess there were a dozen and a half Cobra's advertised. All listed them as the year the body replicates. A lot were very up front about them bing a replica and listed the manufacturer. A few were not. One in particular stated this car is not a kit, and never mentioned it was a replica. A normal non Cobra nut would very likely read that add and think it was an original car. The $60K price says it is a replica, but if the price was $700K, you would think it was original for sure (based on the add).
BTW - the economic down turn is over and our cars are worth a lot more. Only one car was under $50K, and it was in pretty bad shape!

Two things to remember:
#1: "Caveat Emptor." If someone fails to do any due diligence before shelling out a huge sum of money, and then says "Gee, I got screwed," well ... maybe they should have done more research before jumping into the deep end of the pool.
#2: "There's an ass for every seat." This one needs no explanation.

His post had the "ring of truth" to me. I think he really did get skunked.

I think he did too. Would be interesting to know how the trade progress is going.
