Club Cobra - CSX 1001 at Russo and Steele

My Dad was the owner of that red CSX1001 at Russo & Steele. He was, indeed, the second owner, with Carroll being the first.

Yes, it was dated as a '65 but it was the first produced of the twelve total in the CSX 1000 (aluminum Shelby continuation series). It was hand pounded aluminum from AC Motor Holdings between late 2003 and early 2004, and had the aluminum Shelby 427. As some of you may know, AC closed their doors right around the time the twelfth CSX 1000 was crafted. Every person who lent a hand in building it signed the under side of the hood in black marker.

Though Shelby owning it was more of a technicality than anything, he DID take a few passes in it at his track, and signed the dash. Another fun fact is that when it was on display at SEMA, nobody would move it when the display was being torn down, from fear of messing something up, so Chip Foose stepped over and loaded it back on the trailer. I have a photo someplace of my dad and Foose holding a picture of Foose moving the car. I also have photos of them hand pounding those aluminum body panels at AC. I should look around for them and post them sometime.

Just to clear the air, my Dad was by no means meaning to misrepresent the age or authenticity of the car. It truly was titled a '65 Shelby Cobra CSX, as all of them were. He's an avid Shelby fan, car collector, and a major proponent/contributor to the Carroll Shelby Children's Foundation. All bias aside, he's a very honest, kind man and is oozing integrity. The world would be a better place if more guys were as honest and upstanding as he.

I'm sure going to miss that car in Dad's stable. It was gorgeous, loud, unique, and only had about 100 miles on it when it hit the block. He misses it as well, but as many of you may believe, we never really own cars like that, we're just the curators of them for as long as we want to be.
