I don't think it's the shape as much as the 2,300 lbs, 90" wheelbase and gobs of power that's the issue.

If you have a boat and a house, you need to find out what an umbrella policy is PDQ!

And when you get that umbrella, make sure the insurance carrier knows of your Cobra and that the underlying liability policy for the Cobra and the Umbrella Policy are "tied together." In other words, what you don't want is to have your regular cars insured by GreatHands Insurance, with whom you also have a nice $5M umbrella policy, but GreatHands doesn't know that you also have a collector car policy on your Cobra with Bagerty Insurance (agreed value of $100k and, say, $250k in liability coverage) because you never told them. IM(not so)HO, unless you really know what you're doing, you should have an independent insurance agent helping you place all your coverages. Then make sure you tell your agent everything and, if the ball gets dropped badly (which it probably won't), you go after them on their E&O coverage.

And make sure your house (especially rental properties) are under the umbrella.

If someone is replacing your shingles and a roofer falls and breaks their back, after the contractors insurance (you did check they had insurance right) hits its maximum, they will come after you.

Patrickt - I know enough to know I do not understand law.

In Ohio, if you are drinking and driving and kill a drinking budy who is with you, you will actually do 3 years prison time. I know, as my neighbor boy, who was like my third son, died as a passenger. I knew all involved and this is very factual.

A man I knew when he was a child, his daughter unhooked a seat belt to pick up a book she dropped. At that moment another car came left of center and hit them head on. The girl was killed. Her sister also testified that they both had on seat belts, but she had unbuckled it. The father did 8 months, because she was not in a seat belt. Lost his job, house, etc. I followed this in the news and talked to his step mother. I do not know this case as well.

Bottom line, in this state if someone dies in a car accident, the person at fault will at a minimum do jail time. If negligent, prison time is typical. I doubt very seriously that loosing control of a Cobra, while hot rodding, and killing some one, you could ovoid prison time.

I am curious about your Sate. It would seem your laws are different.

If you are drinking and kill someone with your car, my state is "roughly" averaging about 10 years prison time. That's rough, but seems pretty close. If you are racing on the streets and kill someone, a little less time, perhaps. If you are just driving recklessly and wreck and kill your buddy or someone else, you might very well avoid prison time, but it all depends on a bunch of stuff. You are far, far, far, more likely to just accidently scoot through a red light and your buddy in the passenger seat gets t-boned and killed, or you hit someone on a bicycle, or in a crosswalk, and then that's where civil liability can absolutely ruin you, and all because you just weren't paying attention....

Right foot must always be connected to brain. Brain must be turned on.

I've been driving Cobras for 17 years. If you know the history of these beasts and you should if you drive one you would know that their reputation is evil. They are evil incarnate which ironically is part of their allure. The Cobra boasts antiquated chasis, gobs of power, very light weight, short wheelbase, no passenger protection to speak of, Dorito chips for doors, small and low making them a speed bump for the average SUV. These cars have left a trail of many who failed to respect them seriously wounded or fatally so from the day they were born (can you say Christine, which my Cobra has been affectionately named by my wife).

There is only one thing that stands between you and the evil of a Cobra. RESPECT. Let your guard down and fail to respect it they can and will bite the hand that feeds them or as Jeremy Clarkson put it, it will bite your head off then swallow it whole, pits and all.

Retain respect for the Cobra and it will let you live and enjoy the ride.

Tying you collector policy to your main coverage and umbrella is a wise move. Good advice.
