Default AC Shelby Cobra Aluminum Autokraft AK1001

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Other...fCarsQ5fTrucks

1965 AC (Autokraft) Cobra Aluminum

Nothing screams speed like a Cobra: real, fake, continuation, or otherwise. The AutoKraft Cobra, to many is the first real ..continuation.. Cobra, originally filling a space that has now been over taken by the Shelby CSX4000, 6000, 7000 and 800 series Cobras. When they were originally built, starting in the early 80..s, the AC AutoKraft Cobra was built at the AC factory using the same molds and jigs as the original cars. This car is aluminum, like the originals and AutoKraft Cobra..s are recognized in the Shelby American registry.

This may in fact be the ultimate in the "continuation" AutoKraft series. Believed to be the first one built, vin number AK1001, and equipped with Ford's 427 cu.in V8.

The AC Cobra Mk IV, however, is no copy or plastic replicar. It was introduced by Cobra parts supplier Autokraft of Britain in 1982, built under exclusive license from AC using the original jigs, body bucks and tooling. As such, it is a genuine AC Cobra, and a true continuation of the fundamental line with its all-aluminum bodywork and carbureted Ford crate V8s (for the U.S.) mated with the bulletproof T5 manual transmission.

The legitimacy of the Mk IV Cobra is further confirmed by its inclusion into the Shelby American World Registry, which currently features only 197 known examples of these last cars to be built by the original AC company. The timeless formula embodied in the Cobra continues to stir the passions of enthusiasts decades on " the emblem of a true star!

Oh, how I used to crave to own an original until back in the 70's found one.The shop owner was just a tad anxious when I got near the car worried I might dent the aluminum. That very day got me thinking about one out of fiberglass.Since then have had the honor of riding in both a small block and big block originals.Built my own big block fiberglass replicar and could not be more pleased.Best thing is no worries about anybody near the car and I can do anything I want to improve the performance, all the while the value is going up.The originals need to be with the folks who can appreciate their value and treat them as such.In the mean time I will be cruising the streets in my hot rod putting up with all the stares, questions, and occasional street races. It is a tough road to hoe,but one I am certainly proud of as is so many others, kit or original.Cobra's are the ultimate American muscle machine in my eyes and ears!
