Quick jack attack
Our electricity went out early yesterday morning due to Irene, so I thought I would sneak out to the garage and finish plumbing my fuel line, reroute the fuel pressure wiring to the cockpit gauge, and clean up a few things. I figured with the garage doors open I would have plenty of light and could pass the time until the power came back on doing my second most favorite thing. I slid under the car and got a few things done when I noticed a small pool of antifreeze right under the balancer. I got out to get a rag and then swung back around to go under the car, when WHACK! I smacked the top of my head into the passenger side, front quick jack and then drug it across a couple of inches just for good measure. With all the posts and warnings about the evilness of the quick jacks and your shins and head, I thought I was well aware and it would never happen to me. Yeah, right. When I thought I had a leak, all focus disappeared and I turned off my proximity detector to head pain. Now I have a nice gouge right in the area where my hair is thinning and it turns out I spilled the antifreeze when I was filling it, no leak. Here's a pic of the offender. You can see a bit of my blood, skin, and hair if you look close:

Now I know why Bill (Mr. Mustang) changed his out to overriders almost before he unloaded the car. Be careful out there!

Not only does 409 Cleaner take burnt skin and sinew off of sidepipes, it also removes dried blood and hair from quick jacks.

Sorry about your head, mine left a couple of scars on me also. Turn your "jacks" around and that should solve alot of your problem. Worked for me.:)

Bullshi*. Leave them the way they are. Any man that drives a Cobra should have a few scars on him, preferably around the face and head. It just goes with the territory.

Thanks Patrick, that worked well! Important safety note, though, I tried the 409 on my wound thinking it would clean it real nice. Unfortunately, with the dried blood came a chunk of my hair and skin. It's also still burning, hurts like hell, and I can see faint whisps of smoke coming from the top of my head. Do you think this is a problem?

No, not really. But you might want to add some Lucas Oil Additive to the wound, just to be on the safe side.

I would say you lucked out.
I don't see any scratches, bends or dents on the quick jack from your head.
Skin and bone heals.

Thank god the car is okay. You will heal, the car takes repairs if damaged.

That just shows you how BadAss they are. You have to pay attention to them at all times. They demand it!!!! Even in the garage they can strike you without warning. Hope it heals well and if your like me you don,t have to worry about the thinning hair eventually it will let go all on it's own.

You should have just used duct tape. Firmly planted on the wound as soon as it stops bleeding. Leave it for 48 hours then remove with one brisk pull.
Might also want to get one of those swimming pool noodles and make some bumperettes out of them while working on the car.

You WILL hit it again...trust me.

I agree with the duct tape, but you need to tape the rag you were wiping up the antifreeze with over the wound in order to absorb the blood.
edit: And so you don't drip blood on the car!

If you're feeble and can't work under your car, then this wouldn't have happened. There is something positive about having all thumbs.
Alternatively, polished Kirkhams with polished quick jacks wouldn't have hurt nearly as much since they're smooth like a baby's bottom. Your head would have just glided off the quick jack.

I see in the background a few notable items, Paint Thinner and Miracle Grow. You could have use the paint thinner to clean up your head, the quick jack and the floor. And if you rub the Miracle Grow in small counter-clockwise circle on your head that thinning problem would be solved. Clock-wise and you grow Daisies!
Or are you trying to build a bomb?%/

Amen, part of the initiation of owning a Cobra is to wear your scars with pride, enjoy the moment and suck up the pain. Also, keep in mind the true mark of an aficionado is to bang your head, really good and not cuss, but smile as though nothing happened as you wipe away the blood. tin-man

It's kind of funny.
The picture looks like she is sad and down in the mouth because you de-fanged her.
But you are giving her some "bling" back so she should be happy in a while.
