Failed Tach
Last week I turned the key on and the needle swung to 4000 Rpm and then dropped to 2000 Rpm. All this without the engine even being started. From that point it did not function properly. I sent it to be repaired and was told the circuit board had failed due to a voltage spike. I'm having difficulty with this as I have redundant grounds and it has worked flawlessly for 5+ years, as have all other electrics. Can someone elaborate as to how a voltage spike can occur without the alternator energized and functioning. It was suggested by the repair tech to put a 3 amp fast blow fuse.
