Beautiful. Have you decided whether you will pad your roll bar or leave it bare?

Thanks Patrick,

I am working on a unobtrusive, minimalist pad rig, it’s just not done yet. For me the 1.5” hoop is an essential part of the look of the car. So I am trying not to stray too far. The goal being sufficient protection, but almost invisible, and removable. I will post pics when its finished.

Jason,
Noticing the FIA style roll bar support...
Is this new? If so, let's see some photos of the details!

Looks like it is coming along just fine, hopefully better than ever.

Hey Jim,

Yes Its new, It bolts the the passenger footwell frame rail by the bell-housing. It has a slight kink near the sholder area to give me a little more clearance. I Like it alot. Ill shoot a couple of pics of the bar today when I get to the shop.

Those 'extractors' are nice, but have a little 'Aston Martin" flavor to me.

Here is a couple of shots of the bar and the vents.
Vents: I got some stainless steel wire mesh (304) in a couple of different sizes from McMaster-Carr. Ended up using the 8x8 mesh (.020 wire dia. .100x100 opening) made a wooden buck and formed the mesh over it. I’m having a pair of mounting rings laser cut from .125 thick sheet stock. Planning on a bunch of (tiny) tack welds. We will see if that works out. Then it will be riveted to the underside of the hood. (You can see the template for the mounting ring on the passenger floor) You can also see where we cut and moved the inner wheel-well for tire clearance (pass side)

Thanks guys,

PDUB,

Those are my original Superformance roll bar grommets. The crappy part of this story is, I tried to order a new set but was just told by Dave at SPF that they don’t have them and the very best part, he has no idea when they will be receiving them again....
Really? I would think that would be and easy and inexpensive part to buy several thousand of….but what do I know….

Things must be different in TX than OK...I had a fender-bender in a 99 Eclipse with <10,000 miles on it, not my fault and the other driver had no insurance. My Uninsured Motorist coverage repaired the car with all new Mitsubishi factory parts (Allstate had no problems paying for factory panels with less than 10,000 miles on the car), but the deductible was only $250 on an uninsured motorist claim, compared to $500 on a collision coverage claim. My daughter was just rear-ended by a drunk in San Antonio last November, it totaled her Honda Civic and of course the drunk had no insurance....Geico (my daughter's insurance company) paid her the full "private sale" value of her car under Uninsured Motorist provisions and her deductible was only 50% of what it would have been under her standard collision coverage coverage, too.

PIP coverage paid for my daughter's medical expenses, not uninsured motorist.

Cheers!!

Dugly

Thanks Dan,

It’s a very low (almost none) metallic silver, like an early Mercedes. In some light it looks like glossy primer! LOL

Regarding the roll bar grommets, Did the originals actually have them? From many of the photos I’ve seen I don’t believe so. Perhaps something on the underside for weatherproofing the trunk area would look good too?
