Bad Outcome from Street Racing

The video found at the following link titled "Two Turkeys on Thanksgiving Day Wrecking their Corvettes" was shot Thanksgiving Day in the Woodlands Texas.

Stupid driving, but I hope the gum-chewing cameraman also gets fined for driving without due care and attention for operating a video camera whilst driving...

mdross1 11-28-2011 04:02 AM

There will always be those that should never be allowed to drive fast cars until they can prove they know how, same goes for motorcycles.Oh lets not leave out those that do drugs, alcohol, road rage, medical issues, etc etc.Perfect world?

The thing about street racing is you don't have to be bad at controlling your car to have bad things happen. The other driver or an incidental third party can cause it all to unravel, as the previous video and this story in today's local paper points out: click here.

I can see losing it on a perfect straight-away in a Cobra:rolleyes:, but don't those vettes have sophisticated, computer-controlled traction systems that will save even the most moronic street racer?

rodneym 11-28-2011 11:42 AM

Patrick,

These words may never have been uttered here before but....
you took the words right out of my mouth.

Ahhh, so you gotta leave that traction control stuff "ON" in order for it to work. Huh, who'd a thunk it....

rodneym 11-28-2011 03:23 PM

My traction control can be a bit finicky.
When it rains, my foot aches. %/

If you press the button once, it will turn off the traction control. Press and hold the button for 5 seconds, it goes in Competition mode and all electronic controls are turned off.

OK, so if I were to race a vette on the street, I should insist that he go in to full "competition mode." That will at least give me a five second head start while he holds the button in, plus, there's a good chance he'll just wreck trying to catch up with me anyway.;)

It was 75 in Houston on Thanksgiving Day.

mdross1 11-29-2011 06:15 AM

I'll concede to bad things happening no matter who's driving.Back in the day when easily provoked it was all about winning, then did not pay too much attention to the surroundings except for LEO's.

Bill Bess 11-29-2011 06:36 AM

If the car in the left lane would have been a cobra, the right lane corvette would have just done himself in...all by himself. Sad deal no matter what.

madmaxx 11-29-2011 07:31 AM

Well said except sad deal no matter. Everbody makes their own decisions. The limp dick that filmed it was on Houston ABC channel 13 last night made me sick, he driving a 6Klb suburban taping with his phone. What a fuking hypocrit.

No, they say he's a "car enthusiast.":p DPS investigating accident involving two Corvettes | abc13.com

mreid 11-29-2011 08:42 AM

Are you not allowed to film with your phone? Must it be hands free while you're driving? I have no issue with the driver filming these two morons. We need more video of stupid people doing stupid things like street racing to hopefully keep others from doing it. This kind of crap gives us all a bad name and I'm glad he caught it on tape for all to see. This is also not the first time, nor the last, that local news will screw up reporting.
