You, sir, "don't get it".

Foolishly, the market for Shelbys considers CSX2009 an "original real Cobra". That was reflected in the high bid a couple of years ago when the car was previously auctioned.

In my opinion, Erik would have been well-advised to have taken the high bid at that time and, for his sake, I hope the current market produces a comparable bid.

In my opinion, to hold up a complete recreation such as the current CSX2009 as anywhere comparable to the thoroughly original CSX2557 is sheer idiocy.

However, the market is not always rational. Hopefully, there is a mullet that takes CSX2009 off Erik's hands at a price near what he is looking for. But, to be sure, it won't be me!

Jeff

Jeffy, the simple fact is, you are again sticking your nose where it does not belong. It is not up to you or anyone else to act as the police in this situation and render an opinion based on who knows what information denigrating the car being offered for sale. Anyone with the wherewithal to purchase this car is likely not a dunce and will do his own research. Your opinions, coming as they do from what could be termed an unknown quantity, are simply unhelpful here.

Wow, I can't believe that I can't count. 1, 2, 2 and 3? Oye vey. :o

RET_COP 12-06-2011 01:59 AM

Let's get away from the Cobra for a second as it's clouding the truth.
My friends 1967 Corvette Roadster 427 Tripower has been modified. Flared fenders, all aluminum engine, Different wheels, 5-speed. The car looks beautiful and goes too. But...bring it to an auction and it won't command the money as if it were completely stock from the factory, ---BUT it is considered an original by the VIN and paperwork. The purest would not want his corvette to be parked next to THEM in the stock section of a car show though;)
I hope I did not cross the line here:D

If I had the disposable income for that car, I'd gladly take it at 1.1M, add some modern safety gear and track it once again. Why, simple, as the owner, it would be my choice, as it was my money that purchased it.

Ned-

We just see things differently. Was anything I wrote about the build untrue?

And, what's with this "sticking my nose where it doesn't belong" nonsense? This is a public thread ON THE INTERNET discussing a car for sale! I need to join the Grey Poupon club to express an opinion? Good grief.

Nope, you wouldn't be welcome there either. The Grey Poupon Club is even a level above SAAC membership, but maybe the AMC Pacer Club?

I've owned two PSBs...no problem...built one myself, rebuilt the other...always a hands on guy.

PSBs??? we used to joke about this here on CC...rib each other all the time...most guys had fun...some...not so much. Too serious.

But I think we all know that this car has provenance...who cares how many times its been rebuilt...many of these original cars were hacked up from the get go. I still like to shake that hands of the guys that still drive them...or race them.

The SAAC topic was locked within an hour but now is totally gone.

Jeffy,

Race cars are frequently rebuilt. Especially in that day it was not uncommon to take pieces and parts from multiple vehicles. You could see a car wrecked on Friday time trials and appear in the race on Sunday.

So if I get your "opinion", this (admittedly not a Cobra), as it was:

http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/g...ribors/q16.jpg

and now:

http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/g...y/DSC_5993.jpg

http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/g...y/DSC_5994.jpg

http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/g...y/DSC_5995.jpg

has no value. Go ahead, try to buy it.

Bottom line is that a car with a history ("provenance") has intrinsic value. 2009 has a well documented history.

P.S. Look in the background of the first "now" picture :)

Now if I can get to Scottsdale in January to get some quality photo time with Ron Pratte's Tucker.

Good thing, because the moderator gutted the whole point of the thread by his edits of my initial post; should have just taken it down right away.

Jeff

jeffy 12-06-2011 02:51 PM

two-

Do I really need to point out that the rebuilt GT40 is IDENTICAL to the wrecked one? And appears to have a lot more original parts, or identical replacements to original parts?

CSX2009 is a nice replica of a 1964 competition car, but gets some major elements wrong, as I've already noted. When the car was a race car, it looked more like this one (interestingly, the livery of CSX2002 was copied by CSX2009 in the rebuild, but little else):

If you mean the unwarranted personal attack that you posted, guilty as charged. If it makes you feel better, I did get a scolding for editing and not removing the post as a whole from the "forum guide".

NFN Jeffy but you are NOT an expert on Cobra restorations.
For one thing you didn't even build your own replica, you paid others to do the work while you try to pass yourself off as the Cobra guru. ( excuse me replica guru)

Most of the guys you are disputing here are REAL Cobra experts (me excluded) recognized in the industry for their expertise.

OK so you have one or two ERA owners on your side but they are not experts either.
Your comments are just your opinions but the experts have shown that they are not valid.
People who are interested in buying 2009 will just dismiss you as a disgruntled replica owner.

There used to be a guy on this board with an attitude similar to yours but he embarrassed himself( not to mention wearing out his welcome) so many time that he rarely ever posts here.

Can't you just accept the fact that you have a nice replica (maybe one of the nicest) and leave it at that?

I don't want to be your friend because I think you are a know it all, but do you want to alienate everybody on this board?

Roger,

While I do not moderate here, might I suggest you take the high road and let things cool down between you and Jeff.

Humbly submitted,

Bill S.

Bill-

The "unwarranted personal attack" you edited out was simply this (to the best of my recollection):

So why am I here? An SAAC member that calls himself RACER X #99 is riled up by my opinions, and had this to say on another forum:

"You have some nerve critiquing somebody's real Cobra when all you own is a replica."

Apparently RACER X #99 doesn't believe the First Amendment applies to replica owners.

He also said this:

"I would like to see Jeffy (have you ever heard an adult call himself Jeffy?) discuss his feelings on CSX 2009 over here,The Official SAAC Forum - Index"

I am more than happy to oblige.

Jeff

Help me out, Bill, which parts are the "unwarranted personal attacks" by me (the two by RACER X #99 are self-evident)? Or did I forget something?

Jeff

Bill I have nothing to lose in this battle, my reputation went out the window when I tried to knock down the Armco at one of the tracks in the Northeast.
This guy has no idea who he is sparing with (not me, the experts) so every time he make another post he just makes himself look like a bigger fool.
One guy lost every friend he ever had here and I'm afraid Jeffy is headed in the same direction.

But as you suggested I will take the high road as I have more important things to do right now. It's almost nap time.
